By adopting a service oriented architecture (SOA), Marriott lowered the cost of adding an interface from about $400,000 to $50,000. This subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson created tranSMART, a data warehouse entirely hosted in Amazon's Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2).
