2018 PLA NSW/ACT Conference

The Call for Abstracts is now closed.  For any further enquiries please email Bethanie at plansw@parksleisure.com.au

The PLA NSW/ACT conference is the premier regional conference for Parks and Leisure professionals to engage, share and advocate for the benefit of the industry and community.   Building on the theme Lead_Collaborate_Succeed, it will pave the way for new opportunities where our community pursuits and support through facilities and programming will lead to the development of collaborative solutions to the challenges faced by our ever-changing industry.

The program streams are at the heart of delivering our conference outcomes. The streams will look at proactive and innovative ways to prepare and plan for anticipated challenges faced by our industry and champion the development of shared outcomes and learnings from challenges already overcome.

The streams have been developed to empower growth and opportunities into the future, creating greater strength for our region as a leader in the parks and leisure industry, leading through a shared vision and focussed on outcomes.  The two streams for the 2018 NSW/ACT conference are;

Activating Places and Spaces
This stream will explore the evolving trends and ways in which we plan, enhance and activate our open spaces and places, maximising engagement, experience and the wellbeing of our broad users.  The way our users engage with spaces and places is changing, and as populations continue to grow, so too does the reliance on delivering outcomes to better meet the needs of our users.

Activating Sport and Leisure
In this stream speakers will explore and share insights into initiatives and strategies for activating the community through sport and leisure.  The way in which the people are participating in active recreation is changing and facility managers and program providers need to adapt to these trends. Whether it be the increasing female participation, a focus on providing for all abilities or modifying sport offerings to cater for a time poor society, there are challenges the industry must respond to.      Meeting these changing demands takes leadership and collaboration between key stakeholders.
