Education and training are important to Master John. He has completed his 3rd year at Yong In University and will soon be a graduate of their Security Service Tae Kwon Do Department. Master John continues to train both domestically and internationally, bringing to USTMA a blend of traditional Tae Kwon Do with modern teaching methods.

A Virginia state champion 23 times consecutively (11 in sparring and 12 in Poomse), he understands the ingredients necessary to be a solid competitor. Master John has been an assistant coach and team trainer for Virginia State in 2004-2005. He has trained under the Olympic head coach, Sae Hyuk Kim, of South Korea, with the Samsung professional Tae Kwon Do Team and with guidance from four Olympic gold medalists from Korea.

Master John retired from competition in 1999 at the age of 15 and followed his true passion by becoming a coach. C-Crew, USTMA's competition team, was established that same year. Master John paved the way, as the youngest coach to establish, train and lead a team to nationals. C-Crew is rated one of the top competition teams in Northern Virginia.
