A Tradition of History and Excellence

Established in 1987, the United States Tae Kwon Do Martial Arts Academy (USTMA) has set the bar high in the competition world of Tae Kwon Do in Northern Virginia. Rooted in tradition and the core values that practicing Tae Kwon Do instills, Grand Master Eung Gil Choi, an 8th degree black belt, along with his son, 5th degree Master John Choi, have worked hard to build the Academy into a place that balances the athletic conditioning required to excel in Tae Kown Do and the mental discipline that goes into breaking new boundaries and building self confidence in student athletes.

Meet Grand Master Eung Gil Choi

Grand Master Eung Gil Choi is an accomplished 8th Degree Black Belt WTF (World Tae Kwon Do Federation) who has dedicated is life to the study of Tae Kwon Do. He practices what his philosophy of self control, focus and discipline and is constantly learning from his peers as well as his student athletes to improve himself so that he can better serve his students. Having recently completed his Masters Degree in Physical Education, he continues to work towards his Doctorate Degree and his 9th Degree Black Belt. Grand Master Choi is a dedicated and experienced teacher, but is also a proud parent of three children who have gone through his program at the academy. Grand Master Choi has over 35 years of teaching experience. He was taught by his father at the age of 6. Grand Master Choi was the Korean Special Forces Tae Kwon Do Champion form 1975-1977. He holds a masters degree in Hapkido, and Tuk Kong Mu Sool with professional experience in Kung fu, boxing and Gumdo. He is a Grand Master in Tae Kwon Do and Ho Shin Sool. Grand Master Choi opened USTMA in 1987. USTMA/Grand Master Choi was the first school to teach Tae Kwon Do and martial arts in the Leesburg area more than 20 years ago.
