Container Operations and the Ship/Port Interface: Challenges and Developments
A Technical Seminar from ICHCA International

Improving the safety and productivity of container operations is a truly cross party issue. Ship designers, owners and financiers, classification societies and insurers, container designers and owners, ocean carriers, port and terminal operators, stevedores and lashers, equipment and technology suppliers and legislators all have a stake.

In order to address this important issue, ICHCA and the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) will be hosting a two-day educational event on what the industry can do to reduce the risks and inefficiencies associated with container operations at the ship/port interface.

The seminar also includes talks on:
  • Risks in port operations and container losses from the insurers' perspective
  • Developments with lashing and securing of containers and vessel inspections
  • Current issues and challenges at the ship/port interface
  • Incident and accident trends worldwide
  • The role of ships' class and changes to vessels
  • Safety and operational issues with working at height

3rd CTU Packing Roadshow
Practical Education on the new IMO/ILO/UNECE Code of Practice for the Packing of CTUs
After three years of development, the new IMO/ILO/UNECE Code of Practice for the Packing of Cargo Transport Units (CTUs) was officially released in 2014.

As the leading NGO for the global cargo handling industry, ICHCA International worked closely with IMO, ILO, UNECE and other key industry bodies to develop the new Code. Our mission now is to educate, inform and raise awareness of the new CTU Packing Code across the global cargo handling chain.

As part of our 'Pack It In!' awareness campaign, ICHCA's CTU Packing Roadshows offer practical education and advice on:
  • The contents of the new Code
  • How it will impact you
  • How to adopt it into your operations
All Roadshow attendees will also receive a free Amdt 37-14 IMDG Code e-learning introduction course from Exis Technologies, developed in partnership with TT Club.
