Greg Adams
Executive Vice President Group President
Gregory A. Adams is executive vice president and group president reporting to the Chairman and CEO. He has direct responsibility for all seven Kaiser Permanente Regions, serving more than 10 million members and operating 38 hospitals and more than 620 medical office facilities. Greg's accountabilities include co-leading Enterprise Shared Services to serve the operational needs of the regions and leading Kaiser Permanente's national Medicare care delivery strategy. He also has responsibility for the organization's partnership with the National Basketball Association, the first-ever health care partnership with the NBA.
Adams was appointed president of the Northern California Region for Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Health Plan, Inc. in April 2008. In January 2011, Adams was named one of the organization's Group Presidents, assuming additional responsibility for the Mid-Atlantic Region and various national initiatives. In July 2013, Adams was appointed executive vice president and in April 2016, he was named Group President for Kaiser Permanente's seven regions. In addition to his group president responsibilities, he serves on the organization's National Executive Team and Executive Committee.
Adams has 30 years of leadership experience as a senior health care executive and strategic consultant. He started his career with Kaiser Permanente in Southern California in 1999 and has held a number of executive leadership positions within the organization. In the Southern California Region, he served as senior vice president and service area manager of the Tri-Central area and chief operating officer for the region. In 2007 he moved to Northern California, where he was associate regional president and chief operating officer before being named president.
Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Adams held several executive roles in the health care industry, providing strategic and operational leadership for hospitals, health systems and medical groups throughout the country. He was senior vice president of Strategy and Business Development for Catholic Healthcare West in Southern California; president and CEO of St. Bernadine Medical Center in San Bernardino, California; chief operating officer for Baptist Healthcare System of Southeast Texas; and director of Critical Care Services for the Mayo Clinic's St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. He also owned a health care firm that provided strategic and operational improvement consulting for health care organizations.
Adams is past chair of the California Hospital Association's Board of Trustees and serves on the executive committee. He is a member of the National Association of Health Services Executives and also serves on the board of directors for the California Chamber of Commerce and Los Angeles Philharmonic Association.
Adams has a bachelor's degree from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta and a master's degree in nursing administration from Wichita State University. He speaks regularly on issues related to management, leadership and healthcare delivery and financing.

Mark Costa is the Sr. Vice President and Area Manager of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan & Hospitals in Orange County. With 37 years of experience, Mark serves as the chief executive for the Kaiser Permanente Health Plan and Hospital Operations where he is responsible for the care delivery of over 500,000 members supported by 7,791 staff and 896 Permanente physicians that he leads in partnership with the Orange County Southern California Permanente Medical Group (SCPMG.)
Previous to his current position, Mark was the Executive Director of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan & Hospitals, Los Angeles where he had operational responsibility for all health plan and hospital functions of the Los Angeles Medical Center. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Mark was as an executive leader with several Southern California health care organizations including Providence Health System, Little Company of Mary, Torrance Memorial, and California Medical Center.
Mark received both his undergraduate degree and Masters of Public Health degree at UCLA and is a current member of the UCLA School of Public Health Alumni Board.
Mark is an active leader in the community and is currently a board member of the Orange County Business Council and Calif. State University Fullerton's Philanthropic Foundation Board of Governors. Mark is the Orange County Area Representative on the Board of Directors for the Hospital Association of Southern California, effective January 2017. He has served as past Chairman of the Hospital Association of Southern California and the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical System Commission, as well as serving as member of the Board of Directors of the California Hospital Association, to name just a few.
Mark and his wife Kathy reside in Palos Verdes and have four adult children pursuing their professional careers.

Dr. Susan Finlayson is recognized as a national expert on leadership development and strategic planning. She has over 30 years of nursing experience ranging from staff nurse to Chief Nursing Officer. Her current position is Senior Vice President of Operations at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. During her tenure at Mercy Medical Center, Dr. Finlayson was responsible for attaining Magnet Status Recognition, moving into a brand new hospital as well as having Mercy be recognized as one of the top hospitals in Maryland. Prior to joining Mercy, Dr. Finlayson was a national health care consultant for Ernst and Young, LLP, where she assisted hospital systems in reorganizing and improving strategies to create more efficient and effective solutions and outcomes. Dr. Finlayson is also part-time instructor at Johns Hopkins University and guest faculty at The University of Maryland. She is a past instructor for The American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Because of her many outstanding achievements in the nursing profession, Dr. Finlayson was recognized as one of the top 100 Women in Maryland. Dr. Finlayson has published several articles in the Journal of Nursing Administration and recently co-authored The Fundamentals of Magnet Toolkit. She has presented at local, regional and at numerous national conferences including the American Organization of Nurse Executives Annual Conference and the ANCC's Annual Magnet conference.
Dr. Finlayson received a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Science degree in Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science degree from Widener University. She is certified as a Nurse Executive by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and has a certificate in gamification from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Organization of Nurse Executives and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Gen Guanci MEd, RN-BC, CCRN-K

Gen brings over 40 years of national and international nursing experience and skills to her role as consultant. Her expertise includes the development of strategies and process to support all aspects of the journey to excellence including Magnet® Designation. This support includes readiness assessments, infrastructure development, document review and feedback and site visit preparation. Additional areas of expertise include development of structures and processes for shared decision-making; competency assessment and validation; professional development role and process redesign; using data to drive practice; as well as organization-wide leadership development and succession planning processes. Gen has worked both nationally and internationally with a variety of organizations on their successful journey to Magnet® designation and redesignation. She proudly shares that 100% of the organizations she has partnered with for comprehensive support have received Magnet® designation or redesignation.
Gen has held a variety of positions ranging from critical care staff nurse to Director of Education and Organization Development. Gen earned her Master's Degree in Adult Education from Cambridge College. In addition, Gen completed a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in Organization Development also from Cambridge College. She is certified in critical care nursing (CCRN-K) through the American Association of Critical Care (AACN) as well as in nursing professional development (RN-BC) through the American Nurses Association.
Gen is the past Secretary of the Association for Nurses in Professional Development (ANPD) as well as a past President of the ANPD Affiliate - North Eastern Organization of Nurse Educators (NEONE). She has been a multi-year invited member of the annual National Magnet® Conference Continuing Education Task Force which is responsible for the selection of conference presentations and posters. Gen has published several articles related to the Magnet® journey and is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences on Magnet® as well as a variety of other subjects. She is the author of the book "Feel the Pull: Creating a Culture of Nursing Excellence." Gen is sought after for her ability to take complex topics and make them easily understood.
Gen is passionate about the advancement of nursing as a profession. She addresses this through a wide variety of education programs as well as her through her ability to work with organizations as they develop the image of the professional nurse and they travel on the journey to excellence.
