3rd Annual Moffitt Pathology Symposium

The Moffitt Anatomic Pathology 2017 Symposium:

TRANSFORMING DISCOVERY INTO PRACTICE

takes place in Sarasota, Florida from February 2-5 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.

Abstracts are now invited for platform and poster presentations; in addition, there will be a Challenging Case session (see below), to be held the evening of February 3, 2017 at the Ritz-Carleton Beach Club Facility.  The closing date for all submissions is January 6, 2017.  Please click here for the abstract submission form template.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS
Abstracts must be submitted electronically as a Word document, 300 words maximum length (not including authors and affiliations).  Unique case reports, case series, and scientific studies are appropriate submissions; the title should reflect the results of the project.  Please include names and affiliations, underline the presenter’s name; state if the presenter is a trainee.  Also include a statement asserting that all contributors are aware of and agree to the submission.

Send abstract to Ryan Starling, MCC Department of Anatomic Pathology (details below). Four (4) contributions will be chosen for platform presentations; two (2) in the Clinicopathological Category and two (2) in the Basic Science Category.  Remaining submissions will be considered for poster presentations.   Posters must be oriented horizontally (landscape) and fit on a 4’ x 6’ poster board.

UNKNOWN SLIDE SUBMISSION - “CASES by the OCEAN”
There will be a challenging case session to be held the evening of February 3, 2017 at the Beach Club.  Contributors are invited to provide a representative H&E (glass slide) along with pertinent clinical information to Ryan Starling, MCC Department of Anatomic Pathology (details below).

The newest addition to our annual pathology symposium, “Cases by the Ocean,” is an interactive, case-based educational experience showcasing pathology trainees presenting challenging cases in an audience response-based format.  Residents, fellows and other students are invited to submit pathology cases of unique educational interest for consideration, including cases with exceptional clinicopathological, histomorphological, immunohistochemical, or molecular findings. Entries shall include a representative H&E section along with pertinent clinical, radiographic, and molecular information. Presentations will include a brief case summary, followed by 2-3 carefully crafted questions relating to the diagnosis, and 3-5 key bullet points for discussion, approximately 10 minutes in duration.

The presentation should be interactive, gauging the audience’s skills and knowledge in a fun and competitive manner. Cases will be selected for presentations to last ten minutes each.  Audience response will be incorporated in selecting the case destined to be awarded the “Smackdown! Case of the Year.”
