As the use of complementary medicine continues to rise, it is vital that our industry remains at the forefront of knowledge on the evidence, efficacy, safety and quality of these substances. This should go hand-in-hand with their effective integration with conventional medicine. It was from this need that Blackmores Institute was established, and our third Australian symposium will continue to address these goals. Whether it is simply to obtain guidelines on safe and appropriate co-prescribing of CMs with prescription medications, or for insights on how to implement a CM service into your pharmacy, you will take away practical strategies and tools to apply in your business to support patient care. I am proud that we have brought together a group of distinguished speakers, including pharmacy leaders, complementary medicine educators and clinicians, who will deliver high quality education and practical insights relevant to contemporary pharmacy practice. We are excited to announce that our keynote address will be delivered by Dr Forrest Batz from the Department of Pharmacy Practice, University of Hawai‘i. With a background in drug information and community pharmacy practice, he has worked as a complementary medicines information consultant providing herb and non-herb dietary supplement information to health professionals and consumers. He will share practical and relevant information on integrating complementary medicines into pharmacy practice. Research into complementary medicines is constantly evolving. Sessions at this year’s event will include an overview of significant new research on CMs that will be directly relevant to pharmacy practice. Sessions will also equip pharmacists to offer evidence-based advice on potential benefits and risks of CM use, which is critical to integrative patient care. Fostering pharmacist-patient interaction and advice is key to better health outcomes and we look forward to bringing you an event that will extend your knowledge and confidence in this area. Sessions will offer:
