Hugo Matias received is BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Geophysics from the University of Lisbon. He has 20 years’ experience in the O&G industry with focus in basin analysis, salt tectonics, best practice application & multidisciplinary integration of main toolkits and software, Regional geology and Play Analysis, Geochemistry/petroleum systems modelling, Gravity and magnetics, Deepwater turbidites and carbonate reservoirs. He started is career in 1997 with Partex Oil and Gas where he worked in projects in Kazakhstan and Middle East. He joined REPSOL in 2005 as senior geophysicist participating in a vast span of operated exploration projects in West Africa, Mediterranean and NW Europe which culminated with several oil discoveries in the offshore Spain. In 2010, he was appointed as New Ventures Project Coordinator where he was responsible for several important new acreage additions in the NW Europe, Black Sea, Offshore Portugal and Romania. From 2012 to 2015, Hugo was Team Leader for Exploration and New Ventures Brazil being responsible for all exploration assets and leading the bid round evaluations. Subsequently, late 2015 he was appointed Exploration Manager for East Europe and he is currently Asset Manager for East Europe, Ireland and UK. Hugo is a member of the AAPG and EAGE. As a member of the AAPG since 1998 he served as Jury for the AAPG IBA competition Latin America (2014), Member of the Resolutions Committee (2012 – 2013), Delegate at the AAPG House of Delegates representing Portugal (2010–2013; 2006–2008),Chief Editor of the AAPG- European Region Newsletter (2007–2010). He is also a founder and Board member of the APGEP (Portuguese Association of Petroleum Geoscientist and Engineers). He was also member of several Scientific Committees for international conferences in Europe and Latin America. He was also invited to Senior researcher and lecturer at the University of Lisbon and is an AAPG and REPSOL course instructor with several articles published between 1997-2015 in AAPG Bulletin, Marine and Petroleum Geology, Marine Geology and numerous extended abstracts in international conferences.
