Professor Rhonda Marriott

Plenary: "Indigenous Perinatal Mental Health - Reflections on Culturally Secure Practice"

Professor Rhonda Marriott, is a senior researcher at Murdoch University where she is a Professor in Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing in the School of Psychology and Exercise Science. Rhonda has a joint appointment with the Department of Health in WA as a Chair in Nursing, Maternal & Newborn Health, Aboriginal Health & Wellbeing. 

Born in Derby, Western Australia, Rhonda is descended from Kimberley Nyikina people. A registered nurse and midwife for more than 40 years, she became the first Indigenous Dean of a University School of Nursing in Australia in 2003. 

Rhonda is the CIA of a 4 year NHMRC Partnerships Project into Cultural Security for Aboriginal women birthing in urban maternity services. As a chief investigator on 15 research projects that are addressing questions of concern to improving Aboriginal health outcomes, Rhonda will share some of her research and professional insights into Aboriginal maternal and child health and parenting.
