Highway Division

Summary: Brian Deery with AGCA urged all members to contact their congressional representatives to urge re-authorization of the federal highway trust fund which expires the end on May 2015 and to not keep passing short term extensions. Both North and South Carolina legislatures are early in their sessions and CAGC lobbyists will be actively monitoring and supporting legislation beneficial to our industry with a strong focus on addition transportation funding potentials.

Summary: 
Members heard about future economic development opportunities in both Carolinas, a legislative upstate from National AGC lobbyist Jeff Shoaf, and legislative updates from CAGC lobbyists who will be following legislative issues such as a large bonding initiative for building construction in North Carolina and legislation in South Carolina that would decrease the cost of permitting fees across the state and another bill that would decrease the time it takes to obtain a permit from DHEC. There was also a great deal of discussion about the best way to address the labor shortage in both states.

Summary: The Utility Division breakout session featured presentations on Public Relations and Job Site Events, Claudia Dodgen VP People Development, Crowder Construction; Succession Planning, Jonathon Mangels, Greer & Walker; and local, state and national legislative activities with focus on water/waste water funding, Scott Berry, AGC of America Utilities Infrastructure Division Director, and Allen Gray, CAGC Utility Division Director.
