MINING INDABA™ SOCIAL INITIATIVE: EDUCATION

As the annual Mining Indaba continues its 20 year tradition of bringing together global game-changers on economic policy, investment strategies, commodities research, and the world’s leading mining houses, it will also continue to be a critical catalyst for future of mining on the continent. Mining Indaba represents a benefit of what a country can do when it tears down its walls and allows the world to experience all the riches it has to its offer. In this spirit, the organisers are committed to giving back to the continent and country that has served as a gracious host.

Mining Indaba Bursary Programme

In 2014, the Mining Indaba burse increased from R192 000 (its launch value in 2013) distributed to two students in 2013, to R300000 supporting four students in 2014 pursuing a mining discipline at the University of Wits and University of Pretoria. The bursary is managed and administered through EduLoan, a South African based organisation.

Mining Indaba Education Initiative for Underprivileged Students

In 2014, we added a new endowment of US$10,000 (R33,000) distributed to REAP – Rural Education Access Programme – assisting underprivileged South African studentsto continue their secondary educational studies.

Partnership with Els for Autism South Africa

In 2014, Mining Indaba collaborated with the Els for Autism foundation and Els Wines for its 10th annual Golf Tournament. Ernie Els is globally recognized for his golf talent but also for his personal struggle with a child with autism. Given his ties to South Africa and his noble cause, we found it a perfect match. A portion of the proceeds (R100,000) from the golf tournament was given to Els for Autism South Africa. This money will go to children who require additional assistance in completing an adequate educational curriculum as a result of their challenges.
