Tacoma's Free Light Rail Train
Tacoma offers a free light rail train service throughout the downtown corridor. The light rail train runs every ten minutes, Monday - Friday from 5am - 10pm, Saturday from 8am - 10pm, and Sunday from 10am - 6pm. A convention center light rail stop is located just outside the first floor of the facility (on Commerce Street) for convenient access throughout downtown Tacoma. The light rail system is operated by Sound Transit
Parking
When parking at GTCC, be sure to make note of your parking stall number. Proceed to one of the pay stations located by the entry/exit of the lot/building. Select 1 for payment with credit card or cash, on the next screen, enter your parking stall number. The screen will then tell you when your time expires, it defaults to 4 hours ($6), so be sure to select more time for all day ($12). Put in your cash or credit card, then print your receipt. It is NOT necessary to put anything back in your car once you pay, you can enter the building.
Pay Stations are limited, please allow extra time when arriving to avoid long lines.
Hotel Construction Impacts
Over the next two and a half years, construction is expected to take place on a new hotel adjacent to the Greater Tacoma Convention center. The developer will begin preparing the property in December.
How will this impact PIEPC?
Events taking place March 1, 2017 through the end of construction, impacts may include:
- Rerouting of parking lot entrances and parking options: Access from the south of the Convention Center as well as the exterior parking lots A, B and C will be closed. Guest parking will be available in the A Garage within the Convention Center building, accessible via the newly constructed ramp at Commerce Street. Additional guest parking will be available throughout the construction period at the D and E Garages off Court C. Guests may also park by Court 17 (1717 Market Street). Please speak with your Event Manager for specific details on anticipated parking impacts during your event.
- Sidewalk closures: The Broadway entrance to the Convention Center will be closed. Convention Center guests should enter the facility through the Commerce and 15th street doors.
- Noise Impacts: Construction work hours will be Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and high noise activities will be managed to minimize impact to our clients and your guests.
