Five more sleeps to go!

We are around the final bend and are heading up the home straight with only five sleeps to go before Universities Australia’s 2014 Higher Education Conference kicks-off.

If you have forgotten to register it is not too late. You need to be quick though - registrations will close Monday COB.

But for the majority of you who are all prepped and ready for next week, we look forward to seeing you bright-eyed and ready on Wednesday morning. If you are one of those people who is not so bright in the morning, don’t worry, we will have a coffee cart standing-by to provide you with a barista-made cup of inspiration to get you moving.

And the conference will close as strong as it opens

Who doesn’t like a good finale? And it’s with that point in mind that we have put together a conference ending that is sure to give you plenty to talk about as you head back to Canberra Airport (which coincidently was crowned the 2013 Australian Airport of the Year).

The closing plenary session: Looking back, looking forward, looking sideways, will feature a Nobel Prize Laureate, an Australian of the Year, a project scientist for a revolutionary array of radio telescopes and… one of Australia’s best known science commentators and comedians.

The session will be facilitated by Adam Spencer, a self-proclaimed maths-geek, broadcaster and media personality who will guide a world-class panel consisting of:

  • Professor Brian Schmidt AC, Astronomer, Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, The Australian National University (2011 Nobel Prize in Physics)
  • Professor Ian Frazer AC, CEO and Director of Research, TRI Pty Ltd. Research Leader, Epithelial Cancer Division, University of Queensland (2006 Australian of the Year)
  • Dr Lisa Harvey-Smith, Research Astronomer, CSIRO (Project Scientist for the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder)

So, not only do you have the start of the conference to look forward to, we will ensure that once you arrive at the National Convention Centre, we will have you captivated until the moment you leave.

See you there!
