Basil Alwan was President of IP Routing and Transport at Alcatel-Lucent. Alcatel-Lucent’s IP Routing and Transport revenues exceeded $5 billion across IP, Transport, Video and Cloud/Data Center technologies during his tenure.  Basil joined Alcatel in 2003 through the acquisition of privately held TiMetra Networks. TiMetra was a venture-backed Silicon Valley start-up focused on service routers for IP/MPLS networks where he was founder, President and CEO. Since the acquisition Basil and the team from TiMetra have steadily grown Alcatel-Lucent’s IP routing business. The business has gained market share consistently for a decade; from entry Alcatel-Lucent attained the #2 position in service provider IP/MPLS routing with more than 400 customers in 120+ countries around the world.  Born 1962, Basil is a recognized industry leader who enjoys working with entrepreneurs and sharing views on networking technology and industry evolution. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, in 1984, with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering.

Prior to this Nigel worked for Mitel Telecom, again working on network management products. Yannick Chauvel joined Alcatel in 1997, since then he has been working around Network Management System from system tests, network deployment and pre-sales. Ten years ago, he has joined the IP consulting engineering team for the EMEA region with a focus on the 5620 SAM and 5780 DSC (PCRF & DRA). During this time, he has covered most of the network technology domains managed by the 5620 SAM IP/MPLS, Mobile Packet Core, Optics, SDN (Nuage) and now NFV. He’s now following the evolution of the NMS and SDN WAN controller with the NSP.

He has worked as the lead Network Architect in a number of global service providers leading the efforts in network integration, product and service development as well as end-to-end network architecture across all technologies.  He has a particular passion for the virtualisation area as his background combines networking, systems and operations which all collide in this exciting period for the industry.  He holds a B.Sc. Hons. degree in Computer Science from the University of Kent. James is based in London, England.
 
Rafa De Fermin

Rafael de Fermín joined Alcatel in 1993. Since then, he has been involved in several responsibilities in the company, while living in the UK, the US, Belgium and Spain. In August 2013, he was appointed to lead the IP Routing and Transport Division in EMEA, and as such is in charge of all Alcatel-Lucent’s IP and Optics business in the region. Prior to this position, Rafael led the Global Customer Delivery and Presales teams for the same regional scope. Before that, Rafael spent five years working for the Access Business Division in Alcatel, in charge of the Regional Support Centres for different geographies (including Europe, Middle East, Africa, India and Latin America). He held pre- and post-sales responsibilities for the Division in those geographies. His earlier jobs with Alcatel include General Management of the Fixed Networks Division for Iberia, and several positions in R&D and PLM, within the Access Products Division.

Bram De Valck develops business for the Nokia IP Routing division, focussed on Critical Infrastructure Networks (Utilities, Transportation, Defense, Government, Oil&Gas...). He is accountable for the benelux customers within the EMEA region where his team is operational. In this role Bram’s technical, communication and business skills help him evangelising industry customers to deploy their mission critical network using the Nokia IP/MPLS platforms. His technical knowhow and +7 years of experience in network design and protocols helps architecting green field or migration scenarios. His first job within Alcatel-Lucent as a IP Network Design Engineer, designing and validating IP network solutions, gave him a deep technical understanding of network technologies and architectures which he relies on to formulate his advice and guidance. My role at Isavia are daily operations and new installations of all voice and data network related systems, this includes Cisco LAN, Nokia WAN and Voice Communications Systems (VCS). The Nokia IP/MPLS WAN-network is used as the transport infrastructure for Air Navigation Service related systems including voice and radar data. I started as a field technician with Iceland Telecom in 1997 and worked on VCS systems and VHF/HF radio installation for air-to-ground and ship-to-shore radios. Managed installation of automatic reporting system for vessels. My division was merged with Icelandic Civil Aviation Administration in 2006 and then started to focus mainly on air traffic services. Migrated to TDM network management using the 3600 Newbridge bandwidth manager. Supervised the implementation of the IP/MPLS integration in 2011 using the 7705-SAR equipment.

Tim Gyselings received the degree of Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Gent University in 1995. In 2000 he obtained a PhD at the same university. In 2000 Tim joined the research department of Alcatel in Antwerp, Belgium. The technical focus of his research was on access networks and access network elements, such as BPON, GPON, EPON, WDMPON, DSL, HFC as well as IPDSLAMs and components in IPDSLAMs, including packet processing. In 2010 Tim started business development for cable operators in EMEA with focus on IP and access solutions. After a few years Tim moved to technical presales for the Alcatel-Lucent / Nokia IP product portfolio.

Craig Labovitz is Nokia General Manager for the Deepfield business line.  Previously, Labovitz was Co-Founder and CEO of Deepfield. Labovitz has developed the core technology, key patents, architecture and commercial strategy behind more than $1 billion in sales of large enterprise and telecom security products. His technology is deployed in more than 700 Internet Service Providers, cable operators, content providers, and mission-critical networks around the globe.  Dr. Labovitz is an expert on Internet infrastructure and cloud evolution. In the 1990s, his seminal Internet research developed the foundation for Arbor Networks technology and served as a catalyst for significant changes in commercial Internet routing software implementations throughout the world. His work was recently recognized with the prestigious ACM SIGCOMM Test of Time Award in 2008.  In addition to his extensive commercial product and research background, Dr. Labovitz has over a decade of operational network engineering experience, including NSFNet backbone engineering, Sprint's first Internet email infrastructure, design of the Department of Defense research network, and the first commercial aviation Internet service. Dr. Labovitz is an active participant in the global network engineering community, including service on the program committee and as the Chair of North American Network Operators Group (NANOG).  Labovitz is the author of more than a dozen peer-reviewed networking research papers, journal articles and patents. His is a frequent guest on national television and radio news programs and his research is widely cited in national media articles and academic publications. Dr. Labovitz received his PhD and MSE from the University of Michigan.
 
Karyn Lennon

Karyn Lennon leads the Learning Services function for Nokia’s IP/Optical Networks Business Group.  In her role, Karyn is responsible for setting the strategic direction and development of Nokia’s Optical educational services which includes the Nokia Optical Networks Certification Program.  In addition to the Optical program, Karyn directs both Nokia’s flagship IP/MPLS certification program, the Service Routing Certification (SRC) Program which has over 14,000 individuals participating globally and the Nuage Networks Virtuoso Certification Program (NN-VCP). Prior to her role in Learning Services, Karyn held various PLM and Marketing positions at Newbridge Networks and Alcatel-Lucent. Karyn received her Bachelor of Commerce from  McGill University and holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Ottawa.
 
Benoit Leridon

Benoit Leridon is a regional IPR Business Development Manager at Nokia, responsible for Transport, Energy and public sector in EMEA. In his role he is deeply involved in customer projects in the pre-sales phase, to understand customer applications and requirements in order to define the proper solution for the evolution of their network infrastructures. Benoit has 25 years of telecom pre-sales background covering enterprise and carrier markets for data, and voice solutions, and has joined Alcatel-Lucent in 2010 after holding different pre-sales management positions in companies such as Wellfleet, Bay Networks and Nortel.

Dr. Samuel Liu is a Director of Product Line Management in Nokia, IP and Optical Networks Business Group, working on optics and IPoDWDM strategy/roadmap across all router product families as well as managing a router platform. Previously, he was a Director of Product Line Management in Juniper Networks, pioneered 100G coherent packet optical products for core and edge routers. Dr. Liu was also responsible for a new core router product platform in Juniper. He has been working in Networking/Telecom industry for 20 years. Before Juniper, Dr. Liu held different product line management, product marketing, product planning, engineering management and system architect positions at Huawei USA, Tellabs and several packet optical start-up companies. He received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology. He received his B.S. in optoelectronics engineering at Zhejiang University in China. Additionally, he held several US patents and is a frequent panel speaker in the industry. He served as the organizer for OFC Service Provider Summit and Market Watch between 2010 and 2015.

Cormac Long has worked as an IP technical consultant for over 20 years and is the author of three books on IP Technology. He has provided design, implementation, strategic analysis and support services to several private enterprises and state organizations in both Europe and the United States. He has also acted as a security consultant to a number of European aviation authorities.  His main specialties include IP/MPLS networking and IP Network Security. He is Europe’s representative on the EUTC Packet Network Working Group. Currently he is the technical lead for the design and implementation of an IP/MPLS network for ESB, the main electrical utility in Ireland. He holds a B.E. in Electronic Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Telecommunications.
 
Vyacheslav Lvin

Since then he held several positions in Design and PLM with a focus in protocol implementation and Network Management. Four yeas ago Slav moved to California and joined Nuage team first as VSAP designer, then VSAP PLM.  He holds a McS in Physics from the University of St. Petersburg, Russia and is holder of several telecom patents. He has been a speaker at numerous conferences on topics like Cloud Computing and Data Centers and is author of publications on these topics.

Hamid has over 25 years of industry experience in telecommunications. Hamid is a Nokia Distinguished Member of Technical Staff (DMTS), and was also previously awarded DMTS by Nortel, and Rockstar Consortium. He architected and led a number of Internet related technologies and was a member of the first IETF industry design team that architected the concept of Provider-based VPNs. Hamid holds over 130 patents worldwide that cover a wide spectrum of technologies such as BGP, MPLS, GMPLS, VPNS, Ethernet Virtual Private LAN, IEEE 8021ah, Optical VPNs, and MPLS traffic engineering. He edited and co-authored several IETF RFC standards and contributions in both IETF, OIF, MEF and ITU-T. Hamid played a leadership role in the development of IP-based layer-1 VPNs and co-chaired successfully a routing area Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Working Group. Hamid was a key technical driver for the unprecedented sale of Nortel patents for $4.5B to a consortium of top industry companies such as Apple and Microsoft. Hamid has been a presenter at a number of IP related conferences and a member of technical selection committee of IP and Optical international conference for several years.
