Bio
Vivian Krause Canadian researcher and writer who has written a series of articles about the funding of environmental activism and in particular, about the campaigns against Canadian aquaculture, forestry, oil and natural gas. Her research has generated more than 100 media stories, including front-page coverage in both The Globe and Mail and The National Post. Vivian’s work has caught the attention of the highest levels of government. She has testified to the Natural Resources and Finance committees of the House of Commons and the Senate and her work has prompted a CRA audit of 42 environmental charities. Of the 42 audited charities, 41 were ruled as non-compliant by the CRA. From more than a decade of international experience working with The United Nations in Central America and Asia, Vivian brings a broad international perspective to her work. She speaks French, Spanish and Indonesian. Trained in nutrition, Vivian holds a Science degree from McGill and a Masters of Science from the Université de Montréal. During the late 1990s, she worked on diabetes with the Algonquin people in Northern Quebec before she went to Guatemala where worked for six years. Mid-way through the 1990s, she transferred to Indonesia where she worked for five years in health and nutrition programs for the United Nations Children’s Fund. Upon her return to Canada in 2001, Vivian joined the salmon farming industry just as the B.C. government was about to lift a moratorium that had been brought about by environmental activists. It was her experience in salmon farming that enabled her to see parallels between the campaign against that industry and the campaign to land-lock crude oil from western Canada. On Twitter, Vivian is @FairQuestions.
