Biographies

Carey Arnett
Carey is President of Arnett & Burgess Pipeliners. Carey has 20 years of diversified experience in the energy industry, including most recently managing and directing growth, operations, and strategic development for one of Canada’s most experienced pipeline and facility construction, and pipeline integrity contractors. Close alignment with leadership teams has allowed opportunities for hands-on involvement in creating strategic direction, innovative solutions, and contributing to long-horizon success for the businesses that A&B serves. Carey is currently a Director for several private businesses, a Governor with the Calgary Petroleum Club, and a Board Member and Vice Chair for CEPA Foundation. Before joining as Vice Chair of the Foundation, Carey served as Chair of the Audit Committee.
 
Rob Beamish
Rob Beamish recently joined CEPA Foundation in January 2017 as its new Executive Director. Rob has fifteen years of experience with TransCanada in a range of areas including field operations, gas control, IT and facilities planning; his most recent position in 2015 was Director of Supply Chain Services where he led multiple teams across North American as well as Supply Chain’s transformation initiative and continuous improvement program. The remainder of his 30+ years of experience was spent in the innovation sector helping Alberta’s early stage technology companies grow their businesses. In this area, he has held positions of VP Operations at Calgary Technologies Inc., founding CEO at Tecterra, Director at Climate Change Central and Executive Director, Clinexus. Rob has also founded two consulting firms that provided innovation management consulting to small businesses, governments and crown corporations in the domains of energy, clean tech, health technology and information technology. Rob has sat on the boards of the Ability Society, InfoTech AB (Banff Venture Forum), Calgary Angel Network and Nipika Mountain Resorts. Rob is a Professional Engineer with a civil engineering degree and an MBA from Queen's University as well as a Masters of Environmental Design from the University of Calgary.
 
Molly Beckel
Molly is a Mechanical Engineer at TransCanada in Canada Gas Facilities Integrity. Her 7 years of experience spans multiple industries from oil and gas to consumer electronics. Molly serves as the Calgary Chair of the Young Pipeliners Association. Molly earned a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Waterloo in Management Engineering and is a Professional Engineer registered in the province of Alberta.
 
Christian Bourque
Christian has over 20 years of experience in public opinion and market research. Christian is Executive Vice-President at Leger and manages its Montreal research team. As a spokesperson for the company, Christian is a political commentator for the CBC and consumer trends columnist on Radio-Canada. Christian still teaches research methodology at Université de Montréal. Christian has worked on understanding Quebec differences for more than 18 years, including a white paper published in 2006 in Marketing magazine called “C’est la vie in Québec”.
 
Kim Brenneis
Kim joined Enbridge in 2014. Kim is the Director of Community and Indigenous Engagement and responsible for managing the public and Indigenous engagement for Enbridge operations across Canada. This includes developing the engagement strategies that play a significant role in project approvals, building the Enbridge reputation, gaining public acceptance and fostering stronger, sustainable relationships with the communities in which we operate. Kim leads a team of engagement professionals that focus on Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, Indigenous and stakeholder groups, community leaders and influencers, municipalities, emergency responders, ENGOs, chambers of commerce and the general public. Prior to joining Enbridge, Kim spent 15 years with Talisman Energy, where he most recently led the Public Affairs and Land Services department. He has been working in the areas of stakeholder and Indigenous engagement and conflict resolution for over 25 years in North America. Kim holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta and a Masters of Resource Management from Simon Fraser University, and lives in Calgary with his wife Christine. He has two adult children.
 
Jim Campbell
With over 25 years of experience working in politics, government relations and community affairs, Jim brings in-depth understanding of external relations to his leadership role as Vice President, Business Environment at the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA). At CEPA, Jim leads a team responsible for government relations, policy, regulatory and communications to provide a strong and unified voice for the transmission pipeline industry in Canada. Prior to joining CEPA, Jim was Vice President, Government and Community Affairs at Cenovus, where he led a diverse team of people responsible for working with community partners, Indigenous groups, the Canadian military, and governments throughout Canada and the U.S. Jim has intricate knowledge of government and how it works, developed over his years of experience in government and public affairs. His previous roles include three years as Executive Director of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta, heading up corporate government relations at TELUS and then at BP Canada, and advising clients at GPC Government Policy Consultants. Jim has a commerce degree from the University of Alberta and an MBA from the University of Calgary.
 
Travis Favel
Travis Favel is a Indigenous Construction Liaison for Enbridge with over 8 years experience in the Oilfield Industry. Prior to joining the Enbridge team Travis held the positions of both Jr and Sr Indigenous Construction Monitor. Before this role, Travis was a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces with the North Saskatchewan Regiment. he has worked his way up within the Oil and Gas Industry, working as a Laborer, operator and supervisor with various Oil Rigs across Saskatchewan and Alberta. now owning his own Construction Company, Favel Construction LTD. He is currently involved with the Line 3 Replacement Project.
 
Jason Goldstein
Jason M. Goldstein is responsible for managing the Foundation’s technical and economic studies, implementing its strategic plan and overseeing the planning and studies development process. He also manages the Foundation’s meetings and workshops. Jason has worked in the environmental and natural gas industries since 1993. Prior to joining the Foundation, Jason held a variety of positions, including managing partner, chief operating officer, vice president, project manager, environmental inspector and field technician. Jason has worked with large consulting firms, pipeline operating companies and private developers of natural gas assets. Jason holds an MBA in finance and business law from the Stern School of Business at New York University, an MS in environmental science from SUNY College of environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse and a BS in biology from Keene State.
 
Russell Keller
Russell began at Price Gregory in 2002 as Project Manager and then further transferred to Edmonton, Alberta in 2014 as Vice President - Projects for O.J. Pipelines Canada. Russell was officially appointed in December of 2017 as President of O.J. Pipelines Canada and its subsidiaries RMS Welding Systems and O.J. Industrial Maintenance. He brings 20 years experience in project construction and operational management of pipeline construction companies and projects in both domestic and international locations.
 
Vik Kohli
Vik Kohli is Director of Engineering Services for Enbridge’s Liquids Pipelines assets within North America. In this role, Vik provides strategic and tactical leadership for engineering matters to ensure safe and reliable operations. Vik is heavily involved in culture shifts related to process safety management, engineering governance and asset management. Vik has over 15 years of energy pipeline experience in general management, engineering, operations and project management. Vik first joined Enbridge in 2001, moving through several engineering positions before transition to operations. In 2004, Vik moved to the Midwestern US area to work in field operation where his responsibilities included emergency planning and response, maintenance planning and project integration. In 2007, Vik returned to Canada where he held a number of management roles related to project development and project execution, until moving into his current role in 2011. Vik earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada, a Coaching Certificate from Royal Roads University in British Columbia, Canada and holds Masters in Business Administration degrees from Cornell University in the United States and Queens University in Canada. Vik is a registered Professional Engineer in Alberta, registered Project Management Professional, Advisory Board member for the Young Pipeliners Association of Canada and Board member and Vice Chairman with the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) Foundation. Previous to joining the CEPA Foundation Board, Vik was Chair of the CEPA Foundation Quality Culture steering committee. Vik is also actively involved with the Canadian Standards Association as a member of Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems standards committee and a proud and active supporter of the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer and the United Way.
 
Vivian Krause
Vivian Krause Canadian researcher and writer who has written a series of articles about the funding of environmental activism and in particular, about the campaigns against Canadian aquaculture, forestry, oil and natural gas. Her research has generated more than 100 media stories, including front-page coverage in both The Globe and Mail and The National Post. Vivian’s work has caught the attention of the highest levels of government. She has testified to the Natural Resources and Finance committees of the House of Commons and the Senate and her work has prompted a CRA audit of 42 environmental charities. Of the 42 audited charities, 41 were ruled as non-compliant by the CRA. From more than a decade of international experience working with The United Nations in Central America and Asia, Vivian brings a broad international perspective to her work. She speaks French, Spanish and Indonesian. Trained in nutrition, Vivian holds a Science degree from McGill and a Masters of Science from the Université de Montréal. During the late 1990s, she worked on diabetes with the Algonquin people in Northern Quebec before she went to Guatemala where worked for six years. Mid-way through the 1990s, she transferred to Indonesia where she worked for five years in health and nutrition programs for the United Nations Children’s Fund. Upon her return to Canada in 2001, Vivian joined the salmon farming industry just as the B.C. government was about to lift a moratorium that had been brought about by environmental activists. It was her experience in salmon farming that enabled her to see parallels between the campaign against that industry and the campaign to land-lock crude oil from western Canada. Anita Le
Anita is a Project Manager and Pipeline Design Specialist for Jacobs with 10 years of experience in the energy industry. Her current projects involve both fossil fuels and renewable energy sources. Anita serves as an Executive Committee Member and as the Vancouver Chair of the Young Pipeliners Association of Canada. Anita earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta and is a registered Professional Engineer in both BC and Alberta.
 
Tyler Madigan
Tyler Madigan is the Vice President of Mainline Pipelines for Aecon Group and the Vice President and Managing Director of SA Energy Group. In this role, Tyler has overall responsibility and accountability for operations, engineering, project management, project leadership and project execution for all mainline pipeline contracts. Tyler has over 20 years of pipeline industry experience ranging from field labourer and equipment operator positions, to engineering, project management, operations management and executive leadership. Tyler is a Licensed Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geoscientists of Alberta and the Professional Engineers of Ontario. He is also a Board member of the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association Foundation.
 
Joel McKim
Joel Mckim is currently a Senior Construction Specialist in the Enbridge Major Projects Division. He joined Enbridge 5 years ago, with 15 years in the Pipeline industry in various roles. Over the last 4 years Joel has been working with the Manager of Canadian Major Projects, Engineering, Environment, Land and Indigenous Relations to establish and secure a new route for the largest pipeline in Enbridge’s history, the Line 3 Replacement. With the execution and construction underway, Joel is now working as the Construction Manager on the L3R Project Spreads 1 and 2, with OJ Pipelines as the mainline contractor.
 
Karine Péloffy
Karine Péloffy has been a member of the Quebec Bar since 2007 and Executive Director of the Quebec Center for Environmental Law (CQDE) from 2014 to 2018, for which she is now Legal Counsel. Ms Péloffy has developed a rare expertise in climate litigation, publishing the first comparative law article on climate litigation in Canada and the US and publicly commenting emerging cases internationally. She authored a chapter in Climate Justice (2017), which explores constitutional recourses available to indigenous peoples in Canada with regards to climate change mitigation and adaptation. Ms Péloffy holds an M.Sc. in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford and a B.C.L./LL.B. from McGill University’s unique trans-systemic law program. Ms. Péloffy was awarded the Lawyer of the Year award in the alternative career category by the Montreal Young Bar Association in 2015 and featured in Figure de Maître by the Barreau de Montréal in 2017. She started her legal career at Davies Ward Philips & Vineberg before gaining international experience. She is a member of the Multi-Interest Advisory Committee to the to the federal Environment and Climate Change Minister on environmental assessments reform.
 
Pierre-Olivier Pineau
Pierre-Oliver Pineau (PhD, HEC Montréal, 2000) is a professor at the Department of Decision Sciences of HEC Montréal and holds the Chair in Energy Sector Management since December 2013. He is an energy policy and management specialist, with a focus on electricity reforms. He has published many papers on the energy sector, most of them exploring the links between energy and some aspects of sustainable development. He participates regularly in the public debate on energy and has authored many reports for the government and other public organizations. He is a CIRANO Fellow, member of the CAEE, CIRODD and institute EDDEC. Before joining HEC Montreal, he was an associate professor at the School of Public Administration, University of Victoria (2001-2006).
 
Alfred Sorensen
Mr. Sorensen is the CEO of Pieridae Energy Limited since its founding in 2012. He is a chartered accountant and a leader in the energy industry with over 30 years of Canadian and international experience. Mr. Sorensen served as the CEO of Canadian Spirit Resources from 2013 to 2015. From 2003 to 2010 Mr. Sorensen was the CEO and a founder of Galveston LNG. Galveston LNG’s Kitimat LNG project was the first new liquefaction facility permitted in North America in 40 years and is now owned by Chevron and Woodside Petroleum. Prior to Galveston LNG, he was President of Duke Energy Europe and before that President at Duke Energy Canada.
 
Cindy Viau
Cindy Viau works at the Help and Information Center on Sexual Harassment in the Workplace (GAIHST). The first objective of GAIHST is to break the silence surrounding this form of abuse of power and discrimination. Ms Viau’s 14 years of experience at the center and her studies in management of human resources has allowed her to become a specialist in training sessions offered by the center for the private sector. Training provides employers with a clear message of what does and does not constitute sexual harassment in the workplace, guides them in what an efficient policy should and should not include and helps them figure out how to investigate a sexual harassment case before the intervention of the law is necessary. Ms Viau also represents GAIHST as a spokesperson in conferences, in front of media and collaborates on special projects put forward by the organization.
 
Dr. Dharma Wijewickeme
Dr. Dharma Wijewickreme is Professor of Civil Engineering and the Director of the Pipeline Integrity Institute (PII) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada. He joined UBC in 2001 after serving engineering consulting practice for 11 years, with particular reference to the geotechnical design of pipelines and bridges. Wijewickreme’s research focus is on pipeline geotechnical engineering and earthquake liquefaction of soils. He has established an Advanced Soil Pipe Interaction Research (ASPIReTM) full-scale testing facility at UBC, through which he has contributed to current practice guidelines for estimating soil loads on pipelines. He is the President of the Canadian Geotechnical Society for the period 2017-2018. Wijewickreme is Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, and he serves on the editorial boards of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal and ASTM Geotechnical Testing Journal.
