Christian is the Director of Export Services within the United States Department of Agriculture’s, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.  His staff is responsible for overseeing the US Phytosanitary certification program for plants and plant products, on an annual basis the US issues approximately 670,000 phytosanitary certificates.  In addition to his normal duties, Christian has been responsible for the development and deployment of the Phytosanitary Certificate Issuance & Tracking (PCIT) system, which is now used for approximately 98% of all phytosanitary certificates in the US and is the first step in being able to have a true electronic exchange mechanism in place.  He has been with the USDA for the past 10 years in Headquarters located in Riverdale, MD.  Prior to coming to Headquarters, he was a port inspector with experience in seaport, airport, and domestic activities.  He spent two years for USDA as a port inspector and was an original member of the Department of Homeland Security for two years when it was first created.
