International Road Transport Union - IRU Every item on every store shelf, in every office and home, has been on a truck at one point. Trucks are the lifeblood of all economies efficiently interconnecting all businesses, markets and transport modes. However, non-harmonised procedures change from one country to the next creating long border waiting times - an economic and social nightmare for Customs and businesses alike. Fortunately, there is a global, multimodal, secure and affordable solution called TIR, which cuts overall transport times by 40% and costs by up to 30%, and is fully compliant with the WCO Safe Framework. Ratified by 68 countries, the United Nations TIR Convention has proven most effective for 60 years in 58 countries worldwide. Under TIR, any containerised shipments are sealed and unsealed by Customs at departure and final destination, eliminating redundant checks at borders in between. The IRU, as the global voice of the road transport industry with over 65 years experience in facilitating and securing trade, has been mandated by the United Nations to manage TIR. Argentinean Chamber created by the group of private companies of approved satellite devices for control and monitoring of cargoes in customs transit. In Argentina the use of non-intrusive monitoring technologies cargoes has been in use for 10 years now. At present all the internal transits are monitored in real time by authorized companies and together with the National Customs.
The control is applied to trucks, vans, containers, semi-canvassed, Siders, and Pallets. It was the use of these technologies that contributed to a decrease in the accident rate lower than 0.5%. The use of devices is vital in the fight against smuggling and drug trafficking and instrumental for a clean and safe borders transit.
