8:15 am - 9:15 amOpening Keynote: Leadership Lessons from a Conglomerate Split
Carol Zierhoffer, VP and Global CIO, ITT Corporation

Breaking up is hard to do, as ITT CIO Carol Zierhoffer knows all too well these days. The impending split of industrial giant ITT into three separate multibillion-dollar companies creates a unique set of leadership opportunities and challenges for Carol, who is leading the separation of the IT organizations and the creation of financial shared services. Only a few months into the plan to separate into defense, water and industrial manufacturing businesses, she will share her leadership approach and lessons learned so far. How do you redirect an IT organization that’s been working diligently to build single-instance global systems and processes into a three-way split structure? How do you energize your employees about the personal leadership opportunities the split affords while managing concerns about an uncertain future? In this compelling opening keynote, Carol will talk frankly about the upsides and downsides of taking her once-unified team down three separate paths.

9:15 am - 10:00 amImplementing The New York Times’ Digital Subscription Platform: The CIO’s Perspective
Joseph Seibert, CIO, The New York Times Co.

Not many CIOs have to worry about Bloomberg News reporting on their software bugs or Howard Stern chatting about their latest IT project to millions of listeners. But for CIO Joe Seibert of the New York Times, those were just a few surreal moments in the highly publicized March 28th rollout of the NYT’s digital subscription platform. Two years in the making, this new IT system spearheads the effort to turn free online reading into paying subscriptions. And while it’s critical to the future of a world-renowned newspaper brand, it’s also striking a business chord beyond the media world. Any enterprise struggling to integrate multiple channels of its customers into new, digitized distribution models can relate to the challenges of creating new revenue streams from old business models. In this fascinating look inside a game-changing business technology strategy, Joe will share his insights, lessons learned and peer advice on managing a project with such dramatic potential to change an industry.

10:00 am - 10:30 amNetworking Break
10:30 am - 11:00 amForging Stronger Business-IT Relationships
Robert Ford, IT General Manager, Americas Region, Microsoft
The IT organization's relevance depends on its ability to leverage understanding of current business needs and future direction – and then deliver technology solutions and services with greater impact. This understanding can only be achieved through deep, mutually beneficial connections between IT and the business units it serves. Yet for many organizations, this relationship remains a challenge. In this industry expert session, a Microsoft IT executive will share how 'The Voice of the Business' is becoming a key element for Microsoft IT in delivering strategic value to its stakeholders.

11:00 am - 11:45 amWhen the Cloud Turns Toxic: A CIO's Guide to Managing Risk
Matthew Karlyn, Partner, Foley & Lardner
As the siren song of cloud computing grows ever-more enticing to companies of all sizes, it’s easy to overlook the kind of risks that keep lawyers awake at night. “What could go wrong?” asks Matt Karlyn, a partner at Foley & Lardner LLP. “Well, one day you wake up and see the news that your supplier just suffered a breach and it was all your data.” Taking a tough look at the toxic aspects of cloud, Matt will cover the key risks that every company should evaluate before signing any deal for cloud-based services. He’ll delve into the ideal contract language to look for, the importance of maintaining control and ownership of the data and the best questions to ask about security.

11:45 am - 12:15 pmThe Transformation to Virtualized Data Centers
Andy Ingram, Vice President, Product Marketing and Business Development, Data Center Business Group, Juniper Networks
Today's data centers stand at the epicenter of powerful technological and economic trends. Just as other areas of the data center have evolved to meet the demands of an Internet-enabled world, the time has come for networks to take a significant leap forward into cloud computing. By rethinking traditional legacy approaches and preparing for the advent of cloud computing, it’s possible for businesses to build data center networks that offer greater economies of scale, improved application service levels, simpler management and lower costs. In this expert presentation, a Juniper Networks executive will talk about the most critical steps IT organizations should take now to meet the coming wave of data center challenges.

1:30 pm - 2:30 pmCloud Leadership Panel: Business Drivers, Technology Challenges and Reality Checks
Moderator: Maryfran Johnson, Editor in Chief, CIO magazine & Events

Michael Del Priore, VP and Global CIO, Church & Dwight
Kenneth Corriveau, SVP & CIO, OmniCom Media Group

The speedy transition of cloud computing from last year’s buzzword to this year’s reality has surprised even the most skeptical CIOs. On the positive side of the cloud ledger are cost savings, speed of implementation and user acceptance. On the negative side are concerns about data security, integration and vendor management complexity.  Yet the demands of the remote workplace are accelerating, and more businesses are virtualizing IT infrastructures and turning to cloud-based software and services to speed time-to-market, unify communications and ramp up mobile offerings. In this wide-ranging panel discussion, you’ll hear how a widening pool of virtualization and cloud options are changing the way today’s technology roadmaps are being designed. Our panelists will also talk about how governance structures are evolving, how private vs. public clouds are being evaluated and how the CIO role is changing as a result.

2:30 pm - 3:00 pmThe CIO Collaboration Paradox
Steven J. Bandrowczak, Vice President and General Manager, Data Solutions, Avaya
Communications and collaboration are a major challenge for today’s CIOs, largely because the devices and user experiences tend to fall short of what enterprise workers need in easy-to-use tools to help them connect, communicate and collaborate at a moment’s notice. High-end telepresense solutions are too expensive for most companies. Low-tech document sharing only goes so far. Neither offer the increased productivity and process efficiency of seamless integration across video, instant messaging, screen and document sharing, email and web. In this industry expert session, a top Avaya executive will talk about the changing face of business collaboration and how the directions emerging in this field can help CIOs fuel corporate innovation and growth.
3:00 pm - 3:15 pmNetworking Break
3:15 pm - 4:00 pmAfternoon Keynote: Taking Data Analytics to the Next Level at KKR & Co.
Ed Brandman, CIO, KKR & Co.
With more than $60 billion in assets under management at 65 portfolio companies around the globe, KKR & Co. has developed an unusually sophisticated approach to data analytics. “Given the complexity of the data we collect, we haven’t relied on classic business intelligence solutions," says CIO Ed Brandman."Instead, we've developed a proprietary platform to analyze the financial and operating metrics of our companies.” Called Portfolio Central, this custom-developed software has become a powerful tool giving KKR the ability to generate macro-economic trends from data gathered across all its portfolio companies. Through the credit crisis and most recently the Japanese crisis, KKR was able to quickly evaluate the potential impact on all of its diverse holdings. In this presentation, Ed will talk about the business drivers behind the creation of KKR’s Portfolio Central, the obstacles overcome, and the lessons learned along the way.

Adam is looking to expand the organization’s use of mobile applications — both internally and customer-facing — to help the company stand out competitively in the building materials industry. He will briefly describe the issues and concerns he's facing in this transition and then turn to the group for additional problem-solving and ideas.  The workshop concludes with each table reporting out its best advice and specific recommendations.  Click here to read notes of the session.
