2017 Programme Highlights

2017 saw some big changes at Mining Indaba as part of the overall programme and a return to a focus on deal making and investment. These included:

  • The Investment Battlefield which saw 16 junior mining companies selected by Mining Indaba to pitch to leading investors such as Investec Asset Management and Colonial First State to win a series of prizes. The winner, Consolidated Nickel Mines and runner up Sula Iron and Gold were thrilled with the outcome!
  • The Junior Mining Pavilion saw 10 Nano Cap junior mining companies taking stands; this important initiative was sponsored and supported by the JSS Empowerment Fund, Department of Mineral Resources and Chamber of Mines
  • 30 leading investor speakers compared to 12 in 2016
  • A significantly improved Ministerial Symposium with a focus on discussion around roundtables on the Sunday
  • H.E. Former President Thabo Mbeki as a keynote speaker and honoured guest
  • The Bulls and Bears Panel Discussion with JP Morgan Asset Management, Colonial First State and other major investors sharing their views on the state of the market
  • 107 mining company speakers compared to 70 in 2016
  • 174 delegates attending the Young Leaders Career Development Programme compared to 100 in 2016 – the large majority of this was made up of university students who want to get into the mining sector
