North East Asia was the largest global recipient of new leased Boeing aircraft in 2016. The region received 105 new Boeing aircraft on lease. The region to receive the second highest amount of new leased Boeings was Western Europe with 52 aircraft. Norwegian Air International was the airline to receive the most, leasing 19 new Boeing aircraft.

Lufthansa Group. In 2016, Lufthansa Group were the largest recipient of Airbus aircraft with a total of 34 new deliveries, 14 A320 for Lufthansa, 19 A320 for Eurowings and Eurowings Europe and 1 A350 for Lufthansa.

China Eastern Air Holding Company was the airline group to receive the most new Boeing aircraft in 2016 with a total of 42 deliveries. This comprised of seventeen 737-800s and seven 777-300ERs for China Eastern Airlines, seven 737-800s for China United Airlines and eleven 737-800s for Shanghai Airlines. This compares with Ryanair, which was the largest single airline recipient of Boeing aircraft in 2016, with a total of 54 deliveries, all of which were 737-800 aircraft.

North America, with 1,867 in service. And which region has the lowest number of in service commercial regional jets? Middle East with just 87 (as at 31-Dec-2016).

Boeing flew one new aircraft variant in 2016, the 737-8. The first aircraft (serial number 42554) flew for the first time on 29-Jan-2016. A further three aircraft of the type have also flown during 2016. These aircraft are currently engaged in flight test. The first 737-8 delivery is expected in May 2017 to Norwegian Air Shuttle.

IAG. The first Sharklet equipped A320 was delivered in December 2012. Since the programme launched almost all new A320 family aircraft are delivered with the modification. In 2013 Airbus incorporated a retrofit programme which has been undertaken by airlines to take advantage of up to a 4% reduction in fuel burn. Over 70 A320 and A321 have Sharklets retrofitted with the largest participant being IAG with 10 British Airways and 8 Iberia/Iberia Express A320s retrofitted.

December 2016. Airbus had a record month for deliveries in December 2016 with 111 total new aircraft delivered, the busiest day fell on the 29th with 15 aircraft deliveries while the 18th saw only one delivery. The record month was an increase of 32 aircraft compared to December 2015. Meanwhile January was the quietest month with only 22 deliveries.

Serial number 21598. The oldest Boeing passenger aircraft in service is a 39 year old 737-200 which is currently operating with Venezolana (YV502T; serial number 21598). The oldest Boeing freighter aircraft in service is a 43 year old 737-200C which is currently operated by Africa Charter Airline for Bid Air Cargo (ZS-IAB; serial number 20917). There is however an older Douglas freighter aircraft which is a 50 year old DC-91-5F currently operated by Ameristar Jet Charter (N782TW serial number 45826).

280. There were a total of 280 747 freighters in service at the end of 2016 compared to 284 at the beginning of the year. This reflects ten aircraft being retired or stored, five new 747-8F aircraft being delivered to five different airlines and one 747-8F being reactivated.
Q13: How many airlines offer Premium Economy on 737-800 equipment?

Six airlines currently operate 737-800 aircraft with premium economy seating: American Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Delta Air Lines, KLM and El Al. The EL Al aircraft are assigned to the LCC brand UP.
Q14: Which airline is achieving the lowest 787 utilisation? And the highest?

Saudia has the lowest utilisation of their 787 fleet with an average of 10.7 hours per day. This compares to TUI Airlines Belgium which has the highest utilisation of their 787 fleet with an average of 15.8 hours per day.
Q15: What changes have AirAsia Group made to their 2017 fleet plan?

As part of their existing orders there has been an addition of 6 A320 current engine option aircraft, these were announced in January 2017 with all to be delivered within the current year. 5 will be operated by Malaysia AirAsia while 1 will be operated by Thai AirAsia.
