CEO Breakfast Session:
Leading in the Dynamic Charity Sector

ACNC data show that the charity sector is a significant part of the Australian economy and makes a substantial contribution to local and national communities.  This presentation will present new data on the nature, size and scope of the sector, and explore the challenges and opportunities for leaders.

The Challenge of Securing Long Term and Sustainable Donor Support - an FIA Perspective

With an ageing population, more people with chronic disease or other disabilities, living longer and in their homes, greater onus falls on the nfp sector to demonstrate care and sensitivity in contacting this group for the purpose of fundraising. Rob will discuss the steps being taken by Fundraising Institute of Australia to support the sector in pursuing self regulation.

Integration - Better Than Disintegration?
Integrating campaigns is a bit of a buzzword.  But is it worth it?  Most of the evidence for BIG national and international charities points towards a ‘yes’.

For smaller stage or regional organisations it can be tough – especially with our limited resources.

This session will showcase some best practice integration examples but then look at how the lessons should or shouldn’t be applied to South Australian organisations.

The Brutal Reality of Digital Storytelling
So you have attended the sessions at conferences and training featuring the world class speakers and been inspired to create your best ever digital story campaign.  You do a couple of tests and then you hit the ‘donate now’ button……and it is a disaster!  Your old fashioned website isn’t mobile responsive, your donation process is not secure and the whole experience just doesn’t tie back at all to the beautiful story you’ve created.  How did it come to this?

In this session Jason Rowe, Performance Improvement Specialist at leading technology provider to Associations & NFPs, Advanced Solutions International will explore tools and techniques for capturing a transaction, donation or engagement point to harmonise with your beautiful digital stories.  He’ll also cover using the latest analytics to measure the success of your digital story campaigns.

Approaching and Applying to Funders: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
You know there are lots of grants out there and your programs need funding. You do your research, select Trusts and Foundations that match your geographic area and program focus and launch headfirst into writing. You’ve got lots to say and surely the funder will share your passion about your organisation and its work in the community. Simple, right? There’s money out there and your organisation has a clear need.  You’ve worked really hard to send out lots of submissions but somehow you’re getting more rejection than wins. What’s going on?

Successful grant-seeking is so much more than the writing. It’s about detailed research, learning about funders’ motivation for giving, engaging them in your work and getting your organisation grant-ready. Then, when success comes, reporting well to meet and exceed funder expectations. In this session Stacey Thomas, Chief Executive Officer of the Fay Fuller Foundation, and Charlotte Francis, Victorian Client Manager at Strategic Grants, will reveal some of the common pitfalls when it comes to approaching funders, and how to avoid them. They’ll give you some essential tips and tools to increase your grants success.

Panel: Donor Engagement - Beyond the Letterbox
We embarked on a donor journey of each other’s organisations (Guide Dogs SA, RSPCA and Hutt St Centre) to experience what a donor would.  Included were a mid level, a major and a regular donor journey and we were given the authentic donor treatment.  You will hear about what we did, how we felt, what impact the experiences had on us and what you might use to enhance your donors’ journey.  We will explore how the donor journey relates to the fundraising program.  Is it the catalyst for an ask, will it increase or change their donation or is it simply an engagement tool?

Martin Paul (Facilitator), Andrew Sabatino, Executive Manager Business Development, Guide Dogs SA/NT, Jes Bland, RSPCA South Australia & Danielle Bayard, Development & Partnerships Manager, Hutt St Centre (Panellist)
