Unique Design Innovations

Unique design innovations are seen in Residential Aged Care facilities (RACFs) and Independent Living services (ILs) across Australia and the World.  These innovations can improve the day to day life for the residents, staff and can bring outside in, or can assist the organisation in differentiating their brand in an increasingly competitive and discerning market.  Some innovations can improve the efficiencies for staff or allow greater independence for residents through the use of technology.

Innovations from Australia and around the world will be discussed under the following topics:

* Design innovations - house models vs traditional models, electrical outlets for electric cars/ scooters in ILs, pod bathrooms/bedrooms

* Technology innovations - interactive nurse call systems, automated guided vehicles, interactive glass, hoists and exoskeletons

* Operational innovations - baskets of lollies, fruit, toys etc for dementia residents to 'take' with them left around the facility, gardens that 'feed' the residents, staffing models to reduce institutional feel

*Branding innovations - themed villages eg cricket pitch; disability services integration; integrated childcare and adult day care,

These innovations have been experienced by the author through SAGE tours and other tours to numerous services across Australia and the world.  They will be discussed in an Australian context and could be practically implemented into many RACFs and ILs.
