Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 2-Page Paper ?
In the context of the ICTAM 2016 Congress, a 2-Page Paper is a summary that explains, in a non-repetitive style, the essential information of a study, research project, policy or programme.

What is a 2-Page Paper Submission?
A 2-Page Paper submission should present material that is novel and preferably unpublished at the time of the Congress. All papers presented at the Congress are by invitation based on the recommendation of the International Papers Committee. The 2-Page Paper will be used by International Papers Committee as the sole means of selection of papers for presentation at the Congress. All accepted short papers will be published on a USB Key to be distributed to participants with other Congress materials. The Short Paper is limited to a maximum of two US Letter size pages (including figures) and it must be submitted as a PDF document.

May I submit a 2-Page Paper to the Congress?
ICTAM 2016 welcomes the submission of 2-Page Papers for original contribution to the field in the following scientific tracks:

The Mini-Symposia constitute a thematic focus for the Congress and are designed to highlight important and timely topics in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. If you wish to contribute to one of the 6 Mini-Symposia, please select the one you wish your paper to be submitted to. If your paper is not in a topic relevant to one of the Mini-Symposia, it will be considered for presentation in one of the 44 Thematic Sessions. The full list of Mini-Symposia is available here.

The Thematic Sessions are grouped into Fluids topics, Solids topics and topics relevant to both fluids and solids. This link lists of all the Thematic Sessions.

To submit your paper, please click on the Fluids button, the Solids button or the Fluids/Solids button and thereafter select the Thematic Session that is appropriate for your paper. If you determine that your paper does not fit into one of those that has a specific description, you should choose the either the Thematic Session entitled 'Other Topics in Fluid Mechanics' or that entitled 'Other Topics in Solid Mechanics'.

The full list of sessions and their description can be found on the Congress Website.

My project is still ongoing and there are no results yet, should I still submit a 2-Page Paper?
2-Page Papers are intended to present scientific studies, research, programs, policies, etc. highlighting both the methods or description and results or recommendations. If you are describing a study that is still in the planning stage, it would not be suitable for an 2-Page Paper submission, unless the method that you will use is, for instance, of particular scientific interest. However, if your study is currently ongoing and you only have preliminary data, but it seems relevant or significant, please submit the 2-Page Paper.

What is the required structure for a 2-Page Paper?

How should I define the title of my Paper?
A good Paper title is short, specific, representative and informative. It helps the reviewers categorize your 2-Page Paper, and if accepted, it may help Congress delegates find your session. The title should summarize your Paper without going into excessive details. Describe the topic clearly.

Do I need to disclose information of any conflict of interest in my 2-Page Paper?
If the Paper is accepted, the presenting authors are asked to disclose all financial and personal relationships between themselves and others that might be perceived by others as biasing their work. The Congress organizer asks that all presenting authors disclose any conflict of interest at the time of presentation for the benefit of Congress delegates. The purpose of this is to guarantee that all potential conflicts of interest are recognized and mechanisms to resolve them prior to the Congress are implemented.

Material presented in your Paper should not violate any copyright laws. If figures/graphics/images have been taken from sources not copyrighted by the author, it is the author's sole responsibility to secure the rights from the copyright holder in writing to reproduce those figures/graphics/images for both worldwide print and web publication. All reproduction costs charged by the copyright holder must be borne by the author.

Who selects the Papers and decides how they will be presented?
All submitted papers will go through a peer-review process carried out by an international review committee. Each paper will be reviewed by at least three reviewers. The Scientific Program Committee makes the final selection of Papers to be included in the Congress program.

The highest-scoring 2-Page Papers will be selected for presentation in oral or short talk with poster presentations. The majority of the short talk with poster presentations will be displayed in the Poster Section.
How can I increase the chances for my Paper to be accepted?
The methodology or study design presented in your Paper should be appropriate to address the purpose and objectives. Results should be clearly presented and support the conclusions. In addition, the findings should contribute to the advancement of knowledge and development in the field.

If English is not your native language we strongly recommend that you have your Paper reviewed by a native English speaker working in your field before submission.
