Event description

Trainees in rheumatology: Understanding the wider world outside the NHS

05 December 2014 | Birmingham

This meeting has been developed for SpRs, rheumatology trainees, and newly qualified rheumatology consultants, and is designed to help improve understanding of the structures in place across the NHS.

The event provides excellent networking opportunities and offers a platform to share experiences and best practice. Experts will also give insights in to the inner workings of the NHS.

Using interactive training methods, this workshop will equip delegates with invaluable knowledge on how to influence key stakeholders, such as colleagues, patients and commissioners.

Learning objectives

Help rheumatology SpRs better understand the structures of NHS organisations and how theyinterrelate with each other, local authorities and patient organisations
To better understand the commissioning cycle, what commissioners are looking to provide to experts for and how SpRs can influence effectively
To have an opportunity to network and share experiences and learn from fellow SpRs in their wider regional area
Through challenging case studies, put into practice the learning through influencing some key groups; patients, commissioners and those within your own organisation

Format of the event
During the day, we will use a variety of teaching methods and techniques, including plenary work, small group work and pair work. We believe very strongly in ‘learning by doing’ and the whole day will be as interactive as possible. We will also use case studies that the participants will prepare for and then put into practice their influencing with one of the speakers.
