Prior to that Damien worked in the London offices of law firms Bird & Bird and Baker & McKenzie. As well leading the IT function and delivering on the technology strategy, Damien is a board member, and is responsible for information security at Brodies. In November 2014 Brodies achieved ISO 27001:2013 accreditation.

Bill Buchanan is a Professor in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University, and a Fellow of the BCS and the IET. He currently leads the Centre for Distributed Computing, Networks, and Security, and works in the areas of security, Cloud Security, Web-based infrastructures, e-Crime, cryptography, triage, intrusion detection systems, digital forensics, mobile computing, agent-based systems, and security risk.

Bill has one of the most extensive academic sites in the world, and is involved in many areas of novel research and teaching in computing. He has published over 27 academic books, and over 200 academic research papers, along with several awards for excellence in knowledge transfer and for teaching. Bill regularly appears on TV and radio related to computer, and has given evidence to the Justice Committee at the Scottish Parliament, along with being part of the BBC Scottish Independence Team of Experts (specialty: Cyber Security). This includes appearances on Newsnight Scotland, Good Morning Scotland, and Radio 5 Newsdrive, and was named as one of the Top 100 people for Technology in Scotland for the last two years.
 
Richard MacLennan [More Info]

Richard MacLennan is the Head of IT with The Law Society of Scotland. He has been working in the IT and communications field for over twenty years. During this time, he has held a number of leadership positions working as a systems architect, an IT manager and as a consultant/ advisor.

His knowledge and experience is in the specification, design and implementation of IT technologies to achieve business success.

He brings a depth of experience, technical skills and management capabilities to his current role where he leads a team, who support, maintain and develop multiple membership solutions, office applications and bespoke services. Since joining the Society he has been actively involved in improving business and technical processes in the areas of security, infrastructure, communications and business efficiencies.

Richard is a member of the professions technology committee and heads up the Society business continuity and disaster recovery teams.

For many years Tim Musson was a lecturer in the School of Computing at one of Scotland’s leading new universities. In 2009 he graduated with a Master of Laws degree from the University of Strathclyde and left to set up his business, Computer Law Training, specialising in Data Protection and Information Security.

In this business Tim’s services include training in Data Protection and Information Security, support for Data Protection compliance and Information Security (audits, procedures, policies, etc) and an outsourced Data Protection Officer Service. A growing part of his business is the provision of CPD training in these areas for solicitors and other professionals.

He is currently Convenor of the Law Society of Scotland’s Privacy Law Committee.
