Ms Sharon Brownlee
Financial Compliance Manager
Law Society of Scotland

Sharon has been with the Law Society since 2000, and is a Financial Compliance Manager within the Society's Compliance Team. Sharon is responsible for overseeing a team of Inspectors who carry out inspections of solicitor's books and records within Practice Units throughout Scotland, checking primarily for Accounts Rules compliance, and reporting the findings to the Client Protection Sub-Committee. Sharon also provides seminars and training to members of the profession on Accounts Rules compliance, and is also a member of SOLAS – The Society of Law Accountants in Scotland.

 
Mr David Buchanan-Cook
Head of Oversight
Scottish Legal Complaints Commission

As Head of Oversight, David is responsible for the area of the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission which oversees the way in which the Law Society and the Faculty of Advocates deal with conduct complaints – similar to the role previously undertaken by the Scottish Legal Services Ombudsman.

More widely, Oversight is also responsible for using insight from trends analysis of complaints data to inform the profession through outreach work and to publish guidance for both practitioners and the wider public through the Commission’s outreach work. To that end, David makes regular appearances on the conference circuit, both nationally and internationally.

David is the Commission’s representative on the SLCC’s Consumer Panel which was established in January 2015 to promote the interests of legal consumers, particularly vulnerable clients. David is also a member of the Cross-Party Group on Consumer Affairs in the Scottish Parliament and has a regular column which appears in the Law Society Journal.

Prior to working for the SLCC David held a variety of investigation and risk-based roles in both the public and private sectors. These included roles at the Scottish Legal Aid Board; National Australia Bank; KPMG; and Tesco Bank. David was also for some years a Law Society Reporter and Client Care Committee member.

In his spare time David is a keen gardener, the conductor of an Edinburgh-based a cappella group and a composer of choral music.


 
Ms Natalie Cooke

Natalie has been with the Law Society since 2005, and is a Financial Compliance Manager within the Society's Compliance Team. Natalie is responsible for overseeing a team of Inspectors who carry out inspections of solicitor's books and records within Practice Units throughout Scotland, checking primarily for Accounts Rules compliance, and reporting the findings to the Client Protection Sub-Committee. Natalie also provides seminars and training to members of the profession on Accounts Rules compliance, and is also a member of SOLAS – The Society of Law Accountants in Scotland.

 
Morna Grandison

Morna Grandison BSC Tep joined the Law Society of Scotland in 1994 to take on the Judicial Factory appointments made by the Court of Session in terms of the Solicitors (Scotland) Act 1980.

Morna has been involved with the complex fraud investigations on solicitors’ firms for the past twenty one years, and has prepared reports to the prosecuting authorities in the cases in which she has been involved. Morna’s experience in this area of solicitor fraud has resulted in her being called as a witness in a number of the prosecutions for fraud of solicitors in Scotland over that period. Morna represents the Society on a number of forums, identifying fraud trends and threats and problem solving ways to combat issues arising from the latest threat landscape.

During her period with the Law Society, Morna has been involved with a number of cases, which have clarified the law with respect to Judicial Factory appointments. For a number of years Morna has been involved with presenting talks and seminars in the areas of both fraud and Judicial Factory work.
 
Nada Jardaneh

Nada Jardaneh is a solicitor, formerly in private practice, having specialised in Defenders insurance representation/litigation for 8 years. She joined Marsh in 2012 as part of the Scottish Solicitors team. She is involved in the broking, servicing and administration of the Law Society Master Policy for Professional Indemnity Insurance and provides risk management advice and training to the Scottish profession. Nada is also responsible for the Marsh solicitor’s website for the Scottish profession to which every Scottish solicitor has access.
 
Russell Lang

Russell Lang joined Marsh in January 2004 having been a solicitor in private practice for 27 years. Russell has wide experience of commercial litigation, corporate and commercial law. He was an accredited specialist in Insolvency Law and held an insolvency licence under the Insolvency Act 1986. Since joining Marsh, his activities have exclusively related to insurance and management of professional risks for the Scottish solicitor profession. He has delivered many presentations and workshops on risk management topics to the profession.
