Laura Malcolm
The Law Society of Scotland
As one of the solicitors within the Professional Support Team at the Law Society, Laura is responsible for supporting the interests of various key groups within the profession. She specialises in supporting:

• Faculties, for which she is the Society’s main point of contact,
• Sole Practitioners and High Street firms

Laura previously spent 4 years working in the Society’s Complaints Investigation Team and in the Regulation Liaison Team, when the SLCC was set up.

Originally, she worked in private practice in Edinburgh for 10 years pursuing civil litigation; with a niche interest in acting for the VAT man…somebody’s got to do it!
 
Ken Tudhope
The Law Society of Scotland

Ken is responsible for the Society's finance and operations, including the IT platform, budgeting, production of relevant financial information and long-term financial planning for the Society. He has worked with the Society since June 2011 following his role as Head of Finance at Atrium Homes. Prior to that, he spent nine years as an audit partner in the chartered accountancy firm Alexander Sloan, covering both the Glasgow and Edinburgh offices. He was the firm's independent financial adviser as well as money laundering reporting officer. Ken is a graduate of Glasgow University with a degree in political economy.

 
Fiona Westwood
Westwood Associates
Fiona Westwood qualified as a solicitor in 1976 and practiced for more than 20 years as a commercial lawyer, latterly as an equity partner with particular responsibilities for business development across the whole business.

Fiona set up her own management consultancy, Westwood Associates in 1994 which specialises in providing support to the legal profession, especially in relation to leadership skills, strategy and business development and client service improvement.

She has researched in detail professional service organisations and based on this, written three books. Her first book, Achieving Best Practice –shaping professionals for success was nominated their September Book of the Month by McGraw Hill in 2001 and developed a Model for Success based on identifying market trends and business drivers. Her second book, Accelerated Best Practice - implementing success in professional firms (2004, 2008 and 2015) expands this theme, highlighting the importance of aligning strategy with client needs, service quality, people development and leadership. Her most recent book, Developing Resilience – the key to professional success (2010) looks at the impact of marketplace changes on professionals and their ways of working. She is working on her fourth book based on her recent research into how professionals develop their judgement.

She has served as a co-opted member on the Law Society of Scotland’s Working Party on Standards and as their CPD Project Leader of their Education and Training Review. She teaches at post-graduate level at a number of universities, writes regularly for a number of professional publications and speaks at conferences internationally.
