"Integrating Renewables & Storage"

A Message from the Committee Chair --
On behalf of the Power and Energy Automation Conference (PEAC) Committee and Washington State University (WSU), I would like to invite you to participate in the coming PEAC to be held in Spokane, Washington, USA, March 21-23, 2017. PEAC 2017 will be the 19th in the series that was formerly Western Power Delivery Automation Conference (WPDAC). With a strong presence of industry in power and energy in automation, PEAC has established itself as leading forum that attracts practicing engineers, technical staff, R&D personnel, managers, manufacturers, as well as university faculty and students to share their experience and ideas. About 200 U.S. and international participants attended PEAC 2016 in Spokane.
PEAC 2017 promises to be an exciting event with the theme, "Integrating Renewables and Storage." We expect papers that discuss case studies and pilot projects in smart grid, power grid automation, intelligent control, security, SCADA, networks and communications, and project management. In addition, the fundamentals track provides tutorial sessions on essential topics in power grid automation. The fundamental track sessions at PEAC have proved to be a great success - well attended, with excellent interaction between instructors and attendees. As the industry develops the strategy for the future power engineering workforce, the fundamentals track is a valuable resource for training and development. Exhibits from vendors allow attendees to see the state-of-the-art equipment with the opportunity to engage in specific discussions with vendor experts. The Energy Summit that started in 2016 as part of PEAC brings government, industry, and university leaders together to discuss energy issues of national and global importance. Energy Summit 2017 will be focused on the integration of solar energy into power grids.
WSU has one of the top power engineering programs both in the U.S. and internationally with well-recognized programs. The Energy Systems Innovation (ESI) Center conducts multi-disciplinary research involving power, engineering, economics, sociology, and public policy to address issues on smart grid in a societal context. PEAC is an excellent opportunity for faculty and students to interact with professionals from industry and other universities.
Spokane is an exciting city with many attractions for individual or family visits. The event will again be held at the Davenport Hotel, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We invite you and your families to attend PEAC 2017 and visit scenic Eastern Washington.
