Description: Crown lengthening procedures may be provided in order to facilitate restorative therapy and/or improve esthetics. This lecture course will illustrate the indications, contraindications, techniques, and postoperative management associated with functional and esthetic crown lengthening surgery. Clinical cases will be presented in order to review flap design, resective osseous management, suturing techniques, and postoperative protocols.

Learning objectives:
  • Learn about indications and contraindications for functional crown lengthening.
  • Review the concepts of the biologic width and the ferrule.
  • Review indications for esthetic crown lengthening.
  • Explore surgical flap design for apical positioning of the flap margin.
  • Review resective management of osseous tissues.
  • Review suturing techniques and materials.
  • Learn about postoperative management.
