Description: This participation course will present the history, development, and characteristics of dermal fillers, as well as a cadaver review of facial anatomy. In addition to the P.M. hands-on, live patient session, this content-rich participation course will present injection techniques and safety issues, as well as address the recognition, management, and treatment of complications. The importance of establishing realistic patient expectations and patient education prior to treatment, as well as treatment selection criteria, also will be covered. FACES is currently the only training organization in this discipline that regularly integrates cadaver study with live patient injections.

Learning objectives:

  • Be able to identify the areas of the aging face and facial features that could be improved using dermal fillers.
  • Be able to conduct a thorough patient consultation to evaluate the potential need for dermal filler treatment.
  • Be able to describe appropriate skin cleansers and antimicrobials for dermal filler treatment.
  • Be able to properly evaluate dermal fillers based on their pharmacological properties and thereby choose appropriate formulations for optimum patient outcomes.
  • Be able to demonstrate proper injection techniques associated with dermal fillers.
  • Be able to describe the blunt-end cannula and its advantages over conventional needle injections.
  • Be able to avoid, recognize, and manage adverse events.
