Linda Alexander, BSN, MBA, RN, CCM

Vanguard Health System – Detroit Medical Center

Linda Alexander is currently Regional Vice President, Care Management/Utilization Management for Vanguard Health System-Detroit Medical Center; one of 32 Pioneer ACO awardees. She has been actively involved in preparing the DMC for the new health care reform era through care continuum integration. Linda is also Project Leader for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation’s (CMMI) Bundled Payment for Care Improvement Initiative (Model 2), and was Executive Director for the CMMI Community Care Transitions Grant Application.

Linda has nearly 20 years of experience in nursing and hospital administration, with an emphasis on operational efficiency, strategic planning, care management/utilization management, physician services, and quality/performance improvement. She holds a Masters of Business Administration in Organizational Development from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Detroit-Mercy.

In addition to being a registered nurse, Linda is also certified in Lean Performance Improvement and Case Management. She is very active in the community and serves on various community and professional boards.
 
Adam Burrows, MD
Medical Director
Upham's Corner Health Center

Dr. Burrows is the medical director of Upham’s Elder Service Plan, the PACE program operated by the Upham’s Corner Health Center in Boston, since that program’s inception in 1996, and is part of the management team that oversees PACE center operations. He also serves as medical director for Commonwealth Care Alliance’s SCO (Senior Care Options) program, a Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plan and one of Massachusetts’s four Senior Care Organizations.

Dr. Burrows has been active nationally in promoting and supporting integrated models of community-based care for frail and disabled elders, Dr. Burrows lectures frequently on ethical issues, care delivery, depression and other topics in geriatrics, and led a monthly evidence-based geriatrics case conference at Boston Medical Center for more than a decade. Dr. Burrows is a member of the Boston University Geriatrics faculty and assistant professor of medicine at Boston University School of Medicine, where he has twice received the Department of Medicine’s annual Excellence in Teaching Award for community-based faculty. Dr. Burrows is board certified in internal medicine and geriatrics.
 
Eric A. Coleman, MD, MPH

Eric A. Coleman, MD, MPH, is Professor of Medicine and Head of the Division of Health Care Policy and Research at the University of Colorado at Denver. Dr. Coleman is the Director of the Care Transitions Program, aimed at improving quality and safety during times of care “hand-offs.” 

Dr. Coleman bridges innovation and practice through: (1) enhancing the role of patients and caregivers in improving the quality of their care transitions; (2) measuring quality of care transitions from the perspective of patients and caregivers; (3) implementing system-level practice improvement interventions and (4) using health information technology to promote safe and effective care transitions.

Erin M. Denholm, MSN
Chief Executive Officer
Centura Health at Home

Erin Denholm is the CEO of Centura Health at Home and a Robert Wood Johnson Nurse Executive Fellow. She is a distinguished leader in healthcare, noted for her visionary and passionate commitment to transcend healthcare beyond hospital walls, increase healthcare literacy among consumers, and in particular, empower consumers with the resources to direct their care and realize their wishes regarding end-of-life options. She is responsible for a wide range of home health services, senior living and skilled nursing facilities, palliative care, hospice programs, durable medical equipment and other non-acute care offerings that complement the health care delivered inside Centura Health’s thirteen Colorado hospitals. She pioneered the use of telehealth technology in reducing emergency room visits and adverse outcomes among heart failure patients in Colorado, and she led the successful legislative effort to make Colorado the first state in the country to provide Medicaid funding for telehealth services.

Ms. Denholm has won numerous accolades for her work. Under her auspices, Centura Health at Home has been recognized as a world-class workplace by the Gallup organization. She is a recipient of The Denver Business Journal Champion in Healthcare award and her collaborative spirit inspired a joint venture with The Children’s Hospital to fund and operate the first palliative care program in Colorado designed exclusively for children and their families has received national acclaim. She is an international speaker and consultant on telehealth nursing, inclusive leadership, nursing productivity in home care, visit-based compensation systems, and the patient-centered medical home. Ms. Denholm holds an MSN from Regis University and a BSN from The College of Mt. St. Joseph. She has been on the Home Care Association of Colorado Board of Directors, has served on the Board of Directors for the Rocky Mountain Children’s Choir and the steering committees for Home Care Strategy and Advocacy for Catholic Health Initiatives.

 
Andy Edeburn, MA

With nearly 20 years of consulting experience, Andy Edeburn has worked across the country, assisting post-acute and aging services organizations identify new market opportunities, redevelop or reposition existing assets, explore new business models and prepare for the impact of health care reform on both strategic and tactical fronts. Over his career, Mr. Edeburn has worked with both for-profit and nonprofit organizations, multi-site senior living and SNF operators, CCRCs, standalone communities, and other post-acute providers. He has directed numerous client engagements, ranging from simple market analyses for standalone facilities through full-scale strategic planning efforts for major health systems.

Mr. Edeburn previously worked as a health care consultant manager with CliftonLarsonAllen’s national healthcare consulting practice, providing a wide range of strategic planning and marketing services to post-acute care and aging service providers. Additionally, he was a sales and marketing consultant for the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society where he provided marketing consulting and training to more than 140 skilled nursing facilities, assisted living, senior housing communities, adult day programs, and home health agencies across the country. His experience also includes marketing management positions with Sioux Valley Hospitals and Health System and communication consulting for nonprofit organizations, corporations, and state and federal agencies.

Mr. Edeburn is a frequent speaker at state and national conferences, trade association meetings, and other events, including LeadingAge, LTC100, and Aging Services of Minnesota. Mr. Edeburn earned his bachelor of arts in English and his master of arts in english and liguistics from South Dakota State University.
 
Brian Fuller, MBA
Senior Consultant

Brian Fuller has more than ten years of experience in system-wide strategic planning to support strategic business and partnership initiatives. His expertise encompasses efforts to achieve growth objectives, strengthen market position and clinical leadership, improve financial performance, and enhance capabilities across organizational service and business lines. Mr. Fuller’s focus has been on exploring new business models, care delivery approaches, and partnership options to position for health care reform.

Prior to joining Health Dimensions Group, Mr. Fuller served as vice president of an integrated post-acute health care organization and was responsible for positioning the system for future health care delivery environments. He has been actively involved in the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation’s (CMMI) bundled payment for care improvement initiative, both authoring applications and serving as an expert panel reviewer. Mr. Fuller was also responsible for overall operations and strategy of the system’s skilled nursing division. Prior to joining the post-acute health care industry, Mr. Fuller served in various higher education roles where he provided analytical, planning, and strategic support for university initiatives focused on enrollment growth, organizational assessment, and academic excellence.

Mr. Fuller is an American College of Healthcare Executives Fellow. He earned his masters of business administration from Georgia Southern University and a bachelor of science in psychology from the University of Georgia.
 
Jade Gong, MBA, RN
Vice President of Strategic Initiatives
Health Dimensions Group

Jade Gong is a nationally recognized expert in the financing and operations of senior care and managed long-term care programs. As vice president of strategic initiatives for Health Dimensions Group, she assists clients to develop integrated models of care that are aligned with the opportunities in health care reform. She also leads Health Dimensions Group’s development of strategic business opportunities.

Previously, Ms. Gong was vice president of public policy for the National PACE Association, where she successfully led the association’s effort to secure the Veterans Administration as a payor for Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) services. She also served as the association’s expert on Medicaid payment methodologies and funding for health information technology and provided technical assistance to rural PACE programs.

Ms. Gong has served on the congressionally mandated Geriatrics and Gerontology Advisory Committee of the Veterans Administration, has testified before Congress on how to provide long-term care to the nation’s veterans, and was a 2006 at-large delegate to the White House Conference on Aging. She has also served on the board of Capital Hospice in Fairfax, Virginia.

Ms. Gong is a frequent speaker at national meetings and teaches strategic planning for the health care management graduate program at Marymount University’s School of Business Administration in Arlington, Virginia. Additionally, Ms. Gong is published on a variety of Medicare, Medicaid, and PACE topics. Ms. Gong earned her bachelor science in nursing from New York University and a master of business administration from the Yale School of Management.
 
Eric Lunde

Eric Lunde is a Senior Member of the Piper Jaffray Senior Living Finance group in Minneapolis. He joined Piper Jaffray in February 1999 and has over 25 years experience in the senior living industry in various capacities. His primary area of responsibility is in the origination of tax-exempt financing for senior care providers of all types including retirement communities, nursing homes, assisted living, and congregate care projects. These financings have involved the origination of both taxable and tax-exempt financings for governmental, nonprofit, and proprietary borrowers on a nationwide basis. Financing structures have included both rated and non-rated credits, private mortgage insurance, and FHA and Fannie Mae credit enhancement.

Mr. Lunde holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas, St Paul, Minnesota and an undergraduate degree in Finance and Management from Hope College, Holland, Michigan. Currently Mr. Lunde serves on the Boards of two senior living providers, the local food shelf, and his Church.
 
Kenneth H. Paulus
President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Paulus is the president and chief executive officer of Allina Health based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Allina is one of the nation’s leading health systems and includes some of the top hospitals and centers of excellence in the industry. The organization is made up of 11 hospitals, 90 clinics, 24,000 employees and several related health care service companies including home health, hospice, transportation, medical equipment, and retail pharmacy. Allina leads the regional health care market in the delivery of cardiology, cancer care, rehabilitation and other key lines of business as represented by the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute, the Minneapolis Heart Institute, the Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute, Phillips Eye Institute, and other key service lines. Prior to his appointment as CEO, he served as the president and chief operating officer of Allina, responsible for the operations of Allina’s hospitals, specialty operations, and clinic groups. In his time at Allina he has led numerous growth initiatives; including joint ventures, strategic partnerships and acquisitions that have positioned Allina as the market share leader in the region.

Before joining Allina in 2005, Mr. Paulus was president and chief executive officer of Massachusetts-based HealthOne Care System, one of the nation’s largest integrated physician organizations and a teaching and research affiliate of Harvard Medical School. Before his time at HealthOne, he served as the chief operating officer of Boston-based Partners Community HealthCare/Partners HealthCare System. Partners HealthCare System is a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School that includes two of the nation’s leading hospitals - Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Mr. Paulus serves on the Board of Overseers for the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Business, is a trustee with Hamline University, and serves on the executive committee and board of directors for the Minnesota Hospital Association.

Mr. Paulus is a Wisconsin native, was raised in Chicago, and is a 1983 graduate of the University of Minnesota Masters Program in Healthcare Administration. He earned his bachelors degree in biological sciences with a concentration in chemistry from Augustana College in Illinois.

 
Marlon Priest, MD
Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer
Bon Secours Health System

Marlon L. Priest, M.D., is executive vice president, chief medical officer, and market lead for senior services for the Bon Secours Health System. He leads System efforts and innovations regarding clinical transformation to provide each patient an extraordinary individual experience of care. In that regard, he has responsibility for clinician synergy, quality, and safety across the continuum of care. He also provides system leadership for physician practices, ambulatory services, home care, and long-term care as well as the clinical information systems necessary to achieve the organizational clinical excellence objectives. Dr. Priest has more than 28 years of experience, most recently with the University of Alabama (UAB) at Birmingham, where he served as a professor of emergency medicine and surgery, senior associate chief of staff and chief quality officer for the University Hospital, and medical director for the department of Critical Care Transport. He has served as associated vice president for the UAB Medical Center where he led the creation of an insurance company, expansion of primary care services, and the creation of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Priest has led several successful talent development programs.

Dr. Priest received his undergraduate in chemistry from the University of North Alabama and his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He was an honors graduate of both the college and medical school, and was elected to membership in AOA-Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Priest completed an Internal Medicine residency at UAB and Baptist Medical Centers. He also was a Scholar in Academic Administration and Health Policy with the Association of Academic Health Centers and had a Pew Fellowship with the Association of American Medical Colleges, Executive Development. Dr. Priest is board certified in internal medicine and emergency medicine, holds internal medicine admitting privileges, and is experienced in both inpatient and outpatient areas.

 
Stephen Rosenthal
President and COO
CMO-Montefiore Care Management

Stephen Rosenthal is the President and COO for, CMO The Care Management Company, LLC (CMO), a wholly owned for-profit subsidiary of Montefiore Medical Center, in addition to his role as Corporate Vice President, Network Care Management for Montefiore’s Integrated Delivery System. Mr. Rosenthal has been a leader in the development of programs and initiatives in Care Management interventions. These programs for frail and vulnerable populations have supported the growth of Montefiore’s Integrated Delivery System, its 1,600 physicians, primary care network of over 500 providers, Home Health Agency, Rehabilitation Facility and four Acute Care Hospitals. Mr. Rosenthal as Vice President of Montefiore’s Professional Services, developed and managed Montefiore’s Faculty Practice of over 1,000 physicians. Prior to that he developed over a half a million square feet of ambulatory practice programs, maintains an active role, and currently chairs the implementation of Montefiore’s Ambulatory Clinical Information Systems, network wide. Mr. Rosenthal also spent a number of years practicing as a Clinical Audiologist.
 
Stephen Rosenthal holds a Masters Degree in Science, as well as, a Masters of Business Administration in Finance and Management Information Systems, from Brooklyn College and Pace University, respectively. He is an Associate in the Department of Epidemiology and Social Medicine of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
 
Sergei Shvetzoff

As a principal of Health Dimensions Group, Sergei Shvetzoff provides overall direction and oversight of the consulting practice, which provides a complete array of services for the entire continuum of health care and senior services. Mr. Shvetzoff is also responsible for coordinating the firm’s efforts for growth and development.

Mr. Shvetzoff has assisted numerous hospitals and long-term care clients in the successful development of their health care strategies. Prior to founding Health Dimensions Group, Mr. Shvetzoff was the senior vice president of a large faith-based health care provider in Minnesota. Mr. Shvetzoff also served as corporate vice president for senior and diversified services at a major health system in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he was instrumental in the design, development, and implementation of one of the largest hospital-affiliated continuum of care systems for seniors.

Mr. Shvetzoff has served in leadership positions for state and national health care associations and is a sought-after speaker on the topics of facility financial performance, integrated continuums of care, and financing. Mr. Shvetzoff earned his bachelor of science in business and public administration from the University of Arizona.
 
Michael Spigel, MHA, PT

Michael Spigel joined Brooks Health System in 2004 as the President of Brooks Rehabilitation Network (21 outpatient centers), and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer for Brooks Health System in June 2005.

Michael is highly skilled in strategic planning, leadership, communication, decision-making, and project management, and is most proficient at creating profitable business results while being seen as a visionary in each organization he has served.
Prior to joining Brooks Rehabilitation, Michael was the Executive Director of The RehabCare Group, Vice President of Operations, and served last as their Senior Vice President of Group Operations.

Previous positions include Director, Regional Ambulatory Services at Sutter Health in Sacramento, CA, a 25-hospital integrated health care system and the Director, Strategy and Development for Sutter Medical Foundation, a medical group of over 150 physicians.

He was a staff Physical Therapist for seven years at the University of Maryland/Montebello Rehabilitation Hospital in the Spinal Cord Injury Program, a Clinical Coordinator of the Spinal Cord Injury team at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, DC, and served the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, San Jose, CA, as a Supervisor on their Spinal Cord Injury Team.

Mr. Spigel holds a Master of Health Administration degree, from Chapman University, Orange County, California and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland.
