VICE ADMIRAL SEAN A. PYBUS, USN. RET.
Vice Adm. Sean A. Pybus graduated from the University of Rochester in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and earned a regular Navy commission through Navy ROTC. He graduated Basic Underwater Demolition/Seal (BUD/S) training in December 1979, with Class 105. He is also a 1998 Distinguished Graduate of the Naval War College with a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies.

Pybus is a career Naval Special Warfare (NSW) SEAL officer with multiple Joint Special Operations duty assignments.




                                   
Pybus has served in SEAL, Underwater Demolition, Special Boat and SEAL Delivery Vehicle tours within NSW and has held positions at Joint Special Operations Command and United States Special Operations Command. Command tours include units in Panama, Germany and Bahrain, as well as duty as commodore, NSW Group 1, San Diego. As a flag officer, he has served as J-3, United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), 2007-2009; commander, Special Operations Command Pacific, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii, 2009-2011; commander, Naval Special Warfare Command in Coronado, California, 2011-2013; and commander, NATO Special Operations Forces Headquarters, Mons, Belgium, 2013-2014. His last position was as deputy commander, USSOCOM, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, 2014-2016.
He has participated in special operations in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
Decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal (one award), Distinguished Service Medal (one award), Defense Superior Service Medal (three awards), Legion of Merit (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), and various other awards.
