Engineered by you - Is it possible to look around and not see science in action through engineering? Watch short films highlighting a better world with engineers, see how well you can build an aeroplane and chat to engineers contributing to society - we guarantee you’ll be surprised!


2 HANDS-ON ENGINEERING FUN

University of Tasmania

Get into some engineering action! Build a hand generator or Electronic Toy Brick, make an Ooblek or lava lamp, experiment with fibre optics, lasers, ping pong ball lights, or create a kaleidoscope! Workshops run all day.

3 VIDEO GAMES LOUNGE

Games Research Group, University of Tasmania

A space to relax, chill out and play some video games. You can chat to the developers and find out how you can create games too!

 

4 INTO THE LIGHT FROM DARKNESS

MONA 24 Carrot Gardens

An immersive underground activity-based arts space - delve into the dark and mysterious world of microbes, mushrooms and light seeking micro-greens.

 

5 ENSURING A FUTURE FOR LIFE IN AUSTRALIA’S OCEANS

NESP Marine Biodiversity Hub

This exhibition raises awareness of the beauty and fragility of Australia’s marine biodiversity and the need for cutting edge science and management to protect and sustainably use this environment.

7 HANDS-ON MARINE SCIENCE

Woodbridge School Marine Discovery Centre

Use microscopes to view live plankton, learn about local marine life with an aquarium, touch tank, and preserved specimens.

Royal Australian Chemical Institute

TasWater

How does the water get from the sky to your tap? Why does it matter what you flush down the toilet? Find out why we need to treat water to make it safe to drink, and meet some wastewater bacteria up close and personal.

 

Flocculation: Separating Mud From Water Workshop

See how TasWater takes murky water from the river and turns it into the clear water you see from your tap! Become a

scientist by making mixtures and observing the results. Learn about coagulation and

flocculation and why they are very important.

 

TasWater exhibit (site 23), 11.30am & 1.30pm. Workshops run for 30 mins.
