Dr. Brent Elsey Biography

 

Dr. Brent Elsey Graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1978. Since then he has been practicing in Family Medicine – initially in rural Ontario – in Beeton from 1979-1985, then Alliston from 1985-1993, then in Innisfil from 1993-2012, and now finally working from the Family Medicine Teaching Unit at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie in partnership with the University of Toronto Medical school, Department of Family and Community Medicine.

 He practices comprehensive family medicine continuing to care for patients at the office, in the hospital and at home. He continues to practice obstetrics as well.

 Administrative roles have included Chief of Staff at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie from 2002-2004, Board member for the development of the Barrie and Community Family Health Team, and presently the Medical Director for the BCFHT (75 family MD’s and over 120,000 rostered patients).

 He has been a Family Medicine Supervisor at the Barrie site since 2009. He now acts as the Barrie site representative to the Quality Program Committee for the University of Toronto, Family and Community Medicine.

 Presently, he works with the North Simcoe Muskoka Diabetes Regional Coordination Centre Steering Committee and he sits on the Quality and Operations Committee at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

 IT projects have included; use of OTN technology to connect with COPD and CHF patients, the Hospital Report Manager Phase II and III with OntarioMD, partnership with Georgian College and connecting imaging services with Georgian Radiology.

 As well, he is helping to promote primary care research by aiding the development of REQIP which is a program developed to enhance and improve primary healthcare provision through systematic enquiry, research and education.
