Instructions

The submission of abstracts is invited for presentation at the European Delirium Association / British Geriatrics Society Dementia and related disorders SIG, under the categories below:

 

  • Epidemiology (prevalence, surveys, follow-up, mortality)
  • Diagnostics (scales, scores, MRI, EEG, diagnostic apparatus, CSF)
  • Aetiology/Pathophysiology (cholinergic deficiency, blood brain barrier)
  • Prevention (clinical programs, pre-intervention medication RCTs, infrastructure, screening, weaning)
  • Risk and precipitating factors (dementia, infection)
  • Treatment and management (medication, structured setting, nursing care)
  • Clinical phenomenology (hyperactive delirium, uncommon cases, psychopathology)
  • Service development
  • Quality improvement
  • Education and training innovations

 

 

The results of the abstract adjudication will be announced  and posted online.


We expect to accept all submissions meeting the basic requirements; the adjudication is concerned with which submissions are selected for oral presentations. All accepted abstracts may be published subject to a review process.

 

Abstract Criteria

Please read the instructions below before preparing your abstract. Your abstract must include:

  • A title
  • Names of authors (presenting author to be underlined)
  • Provenance (i.e. place of work)
  • Contact details (including telephone number, fax number and email address) 
  • Category from the 8 categories 
    • Epidemiology (prevalence, surveys, follow-up, mortality)
    • Diagnostics (scales, scores, MRI, EEG, diagnostic apparatus, CSF)
    • Aetiology/Pathophysiology (cholinergic deficiency, blood brain barrier)
    • Prevention (clinical programs, pre-intervention medication RCTs, infrastructure, screening, weaning)
    • Risk and precipitating factors (dementia, infection)
    • Treatment and management (medication, structured setting, nursing care)
    • Clinical phenomenology (hyperactive delirium, uncommon cases, psychopathology)
    • Service development
    • Quality improvement
    • Education and training innovations
  • The abstract text should be no longer than 300 words and must be in English. Where possible, please use the four standard sub-headings of:
    • Introduction
    • Method
    • Results
    • Conclusion(s)

Please mail your abstract (prepared according to the general guidelines above) as an attachment in MS Word (*doc) format to: Joanna Gough scientificofficer@bgs.org.uk using EDA/BGS 2015 Abstract submission as the title

All abstracts are considered by a scientific committee. The results of adjudication (oral or poster presentation) will be notified to first named authors within two weeks of the closing date.
