1. Affordable Housing
Projects eligible for this Award must be submitted by a developer and:
- must demonstrate initial affordability of the product, as well as the incorporation of ‘whole of life’ sustainable elements that provide for affordability in the ongoing running costs;
- must demonstrate sustainability to respond to changing housing needs;
- should incorporate design elements that make positive contributions to housing affordability whether for ownership or rental;
- are required to demonstrate inclusiveness, the extent to which the project accommodates an appropriate mix of households and seeks to provide all residents with opportunities to participate actively in community life; and
- demonstrate marketability – the extent to which the project is accepted by the market place.
If submitting a project that has previously won this particular Award, significant changes must have been made to the project for your submission to be valid.
The winner of this category may be eligible for nomination into the UDIA National Awards. If nominated, you will be required to complete the National Awards criteria documentation.

2. Residential Subdivision
Projects eligible for this Award must be submitted by a developer and:
- should have established a satisfactory relationship with nearby facilities to meet the needs of residents and users; and
- should not include a comprehensive range of facilities within the development itself.
Stages of masterplanned developments are not eligible to be entered in this category.
If submitting a project that has previously won this particular Award, significant changes must have been made to the project for your submission to be valid.
The winner of this category may be eligible for nomination into the UDIA National Awards. If nominated, you will be required to complete the National Awards criteria documentation.
Judging will include an assessment of your written submission worth 30% as well as an on-site inspection by the judging panel worth 70%.

3. Masterplanned Development
Projects eligible for this Award must be submitted by a developer and:
- must have a coherent design with a relevant range of facilities within the development; whether predominately residential, civic, recreational, entertainment, tourist, commercial or industrial, or a combination of any of these primary uses;
- be developed to the stage where tangible benefits of a ‘master planned’ approach can be demonstrated; and
- must be large enough to generate a sense of community (as the size of the project is not defined).
If submitting a project that has previously won this particular Award, significant changes must have been made to the project for your submission to be valid.
The winner of this category may be eligible for nomination into the UDIA National Awards. If nominated, you will be required to complete the National Awards criteria documentation.

4. Environmental Excellence
Projects eligible for this Award must be submitted by a developer and should be able to:
- demonstrate how research, innovation and design or construction techniques have enabled a significant and outstanding response to enhancing urban ecology outcomes;
- implement water and energy efficient practices;
- demonstrate the use of environmentally responsible materials; and
- demonstrate a commitment to the establishment of more sustainable communities and spaces.
If submitting a project that has previously won this particular Award, significant changes must have been made to the project for your submission to be valid.
The winner of this category may be eligible for nomination into the UDIA National Awards. If nominated, you will be required to complete the National Awards criteria documentation.

5. Seniors Living
Projects eligible for this Award must be submitted by a developer and need to:
- provide particular attention to the needs of residents who have retired or are approaching retirement age;
- present a high standard of overall design, create a sense of place; and
- have regard for an energy and water efficient lifestyle.
Entries are not limited to residential projects and may include aged care.
If submitting a project that has previously won this particular Award, significant changes must have been made to the project for your submission to be valid.
The winner of this category may be eligible for nomination into the UDIA National Awards. If nominated, you will be required to complete the National Awards criteria documentation.

6. Urban Renewal
Projects eligible for this Award must be submitted by a developer and:
- must demonstrate revitalisation and appropriate use of land and/or buildings in established suburbs or inner city areas; and
- can either retain some existing built elements on a site or be inserted into an existing built environment.
If submitting a project that has previously won this particular Award, significant changes must have been made to the project for your submission to be valid.
The winner of this category may be eligible for nomination into the UDIA National Awards. If nominated, you will be required to complete the National Awards criteria documentation.

• maximum height of five storeys;
• must be predominantly residential (i.e. small lot housing, villas, town houses, terrace homes, row housing, apartment buildings); and
• may incorporate minor commercial / retail components.
If submitting a project that has previously won this particular Award, significant changes must have been made to the project for your submission to be valid.
The winner of this category may be eligible for nomination into the UDIA National Awards. If nominated, you will be required to complete the National Awards criteria documentation.

- provide daily living and care services to residents who can no longer live independently;
- provide a residential care option which encourages independence and promotes dignity; and
- present a high standard of overall design, and create a sense of place.
Entries are not limited to residential projects and may include aged care.
The winner of this category may be eligible for nomination into the UDIA National Awards. If nominated, you will be required to complete the National Awards criteria documentation.
Judging will include an assessment of your written submission worth 30% as well as an on-site inspection by the judging panel worth 70%.

- may incorporate minor commercial / retail components.
- may be located within a stage of a masterplanned community or residential subdivision.
The winner of this category will not be eligible for nomination into the UDIA National Awards.
Judging will include an assessment of your written submission worth 30% as well as an on-site inspection by the judging panel worth 70%.

11. Marketing Excellence
Projects eligible for this Award must be submitted by a developer and:
- must demonstrate an innovative and successful marketing program; and
- demonstrate substantial delivery of the marketing strategy of the project.
Entries are judged on their branding, appreciation of the market, use of available budget and media allocation, resultant consumer support and the ability to meet marketing benchmarks.
The winner of this category is not eligible for nomination into the UDIA National Awards.

12. Retail, Commercial, Public Use
Projects eligible for this Award must be submitted by a developer and:
- may be of any size;
- must include retail or commercial facilities, or any mix thereof;
- may include malls, shopping, public spaces and/or buildings, education or health; and
- will be judged on their community creation and integration.
If submitting a project that has previously won this particular Award, significant changes must have been made to the project for your submission to be valid.
Judging will include an assessment of your written submission worth 30% as well as an on-site inspection by the judging panel worth 70%.

13. Consultant's Excellence
Projects eligible for this Award must be submitted by a consultant and:
- should demonstrate the application of innovative and problem solving practices and initiatives;
- should be project specific; and
- must be entitled to enter any other UDIA (Qld) Award category.
Submissions may be for an individual or a consultant team and may be associated with land, residential, commercial, retail developments etc.
If submitting a project that has previously won this particular Award, significant changes must have been made to the project for your submission to be valid.
The winner of this category is not eligible for nomination into the UDIA National Awards.
Judging will include an assessment of your written submission worth 30% as well as an on-site inspection by the judging panel worth 70%.
Projects must be substantially commenced by demonstrating that the first stage has been completed or ample on-the-ground demonstration of specific and relevant facets of the project relevant to the consultant’s contribution, to stage one by 14 August 2017.

14. Wildcard Award
If you have an outstanding project that deserves recognition but does not strictly meet the criteria of the other award categories then this is the Award for you.
The types of projects that may be entered include social infrastructure, community parklands, school/community group projects, public art, IT for the industry or any number of outstanding projects that have significantly contributed to the industry and the community.
Projects eligible for this Award can be entered by a developer or consultant to the development industry and:
- must not be eligible to enter any other categories.
The winner of this category is not eligible for nomination into the UDIA National Awards.
Judging will include an assessment of your written submission worth 30% as well as an on-site inspection by the judging panel worth 70%.

CEO's Award
Aside from the 14 award categories, regional entrants will receive a complimentary entry for the CEO’s Award which highlights the substantial inroads being made in regional developments across Queensland.
The CEO’s Award recognises the best regional development or project, chosen from all regional submissions in categories 1 to 14. Projects eligible for the CEO’s Award must be located in Queensland outside the Local Government Areas of:
- Brisbane City Council
- Logan City Council
- Redland City Council
- Ipswich City Council
- Gold Coast City Council
- Sunshine Coast Regional Council
- Noosa Shire Council, and
- Moreton Bay Regional Council.
This award is not linked to a specific category and a separate submission is not required.

President’s Award
The President’s Award is chosen by the UDIA Qld President from winners in categories 1 to 10 and is deemed ‘the best of the best’ across these categories. This coveted Award recognises a project that changes the way we think about development.
