Background

Much has already been done. The National Academy of Medicine has compiled current data and has made a comprehensive set of recommendations. Caring Across Generations has pushed the agenda of decent pay and respect for paid caregivers in the current campaign. Altarum Institute’s Center for Elder Care and Advanced Illness has spearheaded an initiative to get caregiver issues into state and national party platforms. AARP has had the CARES Act enacted in many states. More initiatives are stacking up.

Improving supportive services and medical care for disabled persons is critically important -- and it is important to do this with wise use of public and private funding. It falls to caregivers to push that agenda, for their own well-being and for the well-being of those who need care.
