Marci Anderson, MS, RD, LDN
Marci Anderson, MS, RD, LDN is a registered dietitian in Cambridge and manages a group nutrition practice "Marci RD Nutrition Consulting." She specializes in and works exclusively with people who struggle with eating disorders, body image and weight concerns, as well as emotional and compulsive eating. In the fall of 2010, Marci completed advanced training as an Intuitive Eating Skills Coach and uses a non-weight focused, non-diet approach in her practice. Marci also instructs a nutrition counseling course for the Eating Disorder Institute at Plymouth State. By integrating nutrition therapy, sensitivity, and a little humor she teaches a spectrum of clients how to heal their relationship with food, exercise and their bodies.
 
 
Amber Barke, LICSW, RYT
Amber Barke, LICSW, RYT is a clinical social worker and certified yoga instructor.  Strongly utilizing a mind-body approach to healing, she believes that disordered eating is just one of the many maladaptive coping skills that clients use to reinforce negative beliefs about themselves.  Working with schools and as the Clinical Coordinator at the Cambridge Eating Disorder Center, Amber had adapted her many of treatment modalities to fit the ever-growing needs of this population.  Focusing on an empowerment approach, she urges clients to use mindfulness in deconstructing not only the internal paradigm of their own body image disturbance, but also the social and societal factors that contribute to their distress – specifically social media, culture, relationships, and family values. 

 
Ovidio Bermudez, MD, FAAP, FSAHM, FAED, CEDS
Dr. Bermudez is Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director of Child and Adolescent Services at Eating Recovery Center in Denver, Colorado. He holds an academic appointment as Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and as Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. Dr. Bermudez is a Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders, the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is Past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Eating Disorders Association and Emeritus Board member of the Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee (EDCT) which he co-founded. He is co-founder of the Oklahoma Eating Disorders Association (OEDA). Dr. Bermudez is a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist and member of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals. Dr. Bermudez has lectured nationally and internationally on eating disorders, childhood obesity, and other topics related to adolescent and young adult healthcare and has been recognized for his dedication and advocacy in the field of eating disorders.

Don Blackwell, Esq.
Don Blackwell is a 54-year-old, South Florida trial attorney with the law firm of Seipp & Flick, LLP. More importantly, he is the dad of a now 25-year-old daughter, Ashley, who spent 5½ years locked in what quite literally became a life-and-death struggle with anorexia. That struggle, which caused Ashley to suffer a tremendous amount of heartache and pain and shook Don’s family to its core and, ultimately, inspired him to write a book entitled: “Dear Ashley . . .”  – A Father’s Reflections and Letters to His Daughter on Life, Love and Hope,” that was published by Imbue Press in the Fall of 20112.  The book is intended to foster closer father/daughter relationships, while at the same time providing guidance designed to provoke thought, to comfort and, ultimately, to be a source of encouragement, healing and hope.

Keesha Broome, LMFT
Keesha Broome, LMFT is a licensed marriage and family therapist specializing in the treatment of eating disorders. After recovering from anorexia and exercise addiction, she received her Master's degree in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University. She is the Clinical Director of the Monte Nido Treatment Center, one of Carolyn Costin's residential programs, and also sees clients in private practice. She is currently a member of IAEDP, CAMFT and NEDA and also co-authors the Spirituality & Recovery blog for Gurze.

 
Cynthia Bulik, PhD, FAED
Cynthia M. Bulik, PhD, FAED is Distinguished Professor of Eating Disorders, Department of Psychiatry University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Professor of Nutrition in the Gillings School of Global Public Health, and Director of the UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders. She received her BA from the University of Notre Dame and her MA and PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. She completed internships and post-doctoral fellowships at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh, PA. Her research includes treatment, laboratory, animal, epidemiological, twin, and molecular genetic studies of eating disorders and body weight regulation. Dr. Bulik has written over 400 scientific papers and chapters on eating disorders, and is author of the books Eating Disorders: Detection and Treatment, Runaway Eating, Crave: Why You Binge Eat and How To Stop, Abnormal Psychology (Beidel, Bulik, Stanley), The Woman in the Mirror (2011), and Midlife Eating Disorders (2013).

Jessica Fernandez, RD, LDN
Chef Jessica Fernandez, RD, LDN is a graduate of Le Cordon Blue London and has 13 years of international restaurant and private catering experience. Over the past two years, Jessica has gained great insight and experience working with eating disorders at the Oliver-Pyatt Centers in South Miami, Florida. In addition to preparing nourishing meals for clients and staff, Jessica leads individual and group cooking classes for the women in treatment. Jessica knows how food and the relationships surrounding it affect the recovery process for individuals with eating disorders.

Lissa Garcia, RD, LDN
Lissa Garcia, RD, LDN is the Food Services Manager at the Oliver-Pyatt Centers in South Miami, Florida. She oversees all food service, including menu development and upholding an individualized approach to meeting the nutritional needs of each client. In addition to nutrition counseling, Lissa leads experiential activities such as grocery shopping, meal planning, cooking exposures and meal outings. She believes that developing these life skills is crucial in helping clients make a smooth transition back into the community. 
 
 
Ann Goebel-Fabbri, PhD
Dr. Goebel-Fabbri’s role at Joslin Diabetes Center integrates teaching, research and treatment focused on disordered eating behaviors in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This work covers the spectrum of eating problems from food and insulin restriction to binge eating and obesity. Her clinical and research activities have been featured in the popular media, including BBC Radio, Good Morning America, and CNN. She started the eating disorders program at Joslin and coordinates each patient's care plan through a multi-disciplinary team approach. The treatment strategy adapts empirically-supported treatments for eating disorders in order to address problems unique to diabetes. She teaches her model of care by consulting to eating disorder and diabetes treatment teams, presenting at national professional meetings, and writing professional papers on the topic. In close collaboration with Dr. Katie Weinger and others, she conducted an 11-year follow-up of women with type 1 diabetes to examine the long-term course of insulin restriction as a means of weight loss and how insulin restriction relates to morbidity and mortality, psychological and functional health status, quality of life, and diabetes-related distress.
 
Jen Johnston, LMHC
Jen Johnston, LMHC is currently in private practice offering individual, group, and family therapy. She attained a Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine from Boston University School of Medicine in 2008, and holds bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Kinesiology. She trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy under Behavioral Tech trainers Michael Hollander, PhD and Joan Wheelis, MD at Two Brattle Center, LLC. She also held the position of Family Therapist in the Adolescent IOP program at Walden Behavioral Care where she was trained in Maudsley-based family therapy and the treatment of eating disorders. Her areas of strength include adolescents, high-risk behaviors, and the mind-body connection.
 

Kathy Kater, LICSW
Kathy Kater, LICSW is a private practice psychotherapist, consultant, health promotion specialist, and author of the Healthy Bodies; Teaching Kids What They Need to Know curriculum (Third Edition, 2012). This primary prevention curriculum was the first of its kind to demonstrate significant measurable improvement in weight-related attitudes and reduced risk factors for disordered eating in pubescent children. Kathy has provided treatment for eating disorder sufferers in the St. Paul, MN area for over 30 years, and is an internationally known author, speaker, and consultant.
 
 
Susan Kleinman, MA, BC-DMT, NCC, CEDS
Susan Kleinman, MA, BC-DMT, NCC, CEDS is the dance/movement therapist at The Renfrew Center of Florida. Ms. Kleinman is a trustee of the Marian Chace Foundation, past president of the American Dance Therapy Association and a past chair of The National Coalition for Creative Arts Therapies. She is co-editor of The Renfrew Center Foundation’s Healing through Relationship and co-author of chapters on body/mind methods for treating eating disorders in the textbook Bridging the Research-Practice Gap in the Treatment of Eating Disorders and the first Encyclopedia of Body Image and Human Appearance. She has earned national and international recognition for her expertise in using dance/movement therapy as a treatment method for women with eating disorders and is a recipient of the American Dance Therapy Association’s 2009 Outstanding Achievement Award. In 2011, she received the Sierra Tucson South Florida award for humility for her dedication to serving as an advocate to others. Her work is featured in the new documentary on eating disorders entitled Expressing Disorder.
 
Kimberli McCallum, MD, CEDS, FAPA
Kimberli McCallum, M.D., CEDS, FAPA is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine. She is board certified in adult, child, and adolescent psychiatry. She is also a psychotherapist with a broad range of therapy skills, including DBT, CBT, and family-based treatment. Dr. McCallum has co-developed several specialized, interdisciplinary eating disorders treatment units, including inpatient, residential, partial hospital, and intensive outpatient. Dr. McCallum also has developed an outpatient service that offers evaluation and evidence-based treatment for patients with Eating Disorders and obesity. Her current programs include McCallum Place, The Victory Program, Webster Wellness Professionals, and Cedar Springs Austin.
 
Guy Oberwise, LCSW
At Timberline Knolls, Guy provides individual therapy to adult and adolescent residents; develops and coordinates the mood disorder programming; and provides supervision to primary and family therapists. As clinical training coordinator, he is responsible for training clinical staff and developing and coordinating the new employee orientation program. He also is a lead facilitator of TK’s professional on-site program, in which clinicians throughout the country visit the treatment center, learn about the program and meet the clinical staff. Guy is a licensed clinical social worker, specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, substance abuse and mood disorders. He also is certified as a Exposure Response Prevention therapist. He graduated from Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Arts in clinical psychology and received his Master’s degree in clinical and occupational psychology from Loyola University in Chicago. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, and the International OCD Foundation.
 
Roberto Olivardia, PhD
Dr. Roberto Olivardia is a Clinical Instructor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School and Assistant Psychologist at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts. He maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Arlington, MA, where he specializes in the treatment of body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and compulsive skin picking. He also specializes in the treatment of eating disorders in boys and men. He conducts a group for men and women with BDD at the OCD Institute at McLean Hospital. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Olivardia is an active researcher. He is co-author of The Adonis Complex, a book which details the various manifestations of body image problems in men, including eating disorders, BDD, steroid use, and cosmetic surgery. He has taught courses at the University of Massachusetts Boston and Boston College and has consulted with cosmetic surgeons, software companies, and documentary production companies around male body image issues. He has presented at many talks and conferences around the country.

Jenni Schaefer, BS
Appointed as Chair of the Ambassador Council of the National Eating Disorders Association, Jenni Schaefer is a singer/songwriter, speaker, and author of Life Without Ed and Goodbye Ed, Hello Me. She is a consultant with Center for Change, and co-author of the forthcoming book Almost Anorexic (Hazelden, June 2013). Jenni's work has helped change the face of recovery from eating disorders. Her appearances on shows like Dr. Phil and Entertainment Tonight, in publications ranging from Cosmopolitan to The New York Times, and before live audiences have brought a world of hope to men and women seeking real solutions. Heidi Schauster, MS, RD, LDN
Heidi has been working in the field of eating disorders since 1995. She is a registered dietitian who has been seeing nutrition therapy clients in private practice for the past 15 years, following both inpatient and outpatient work at Children's Hospital Boston. Heidi has also lectured for diverse audiences on topics in nutrition and disordered eating, and provides individual and group supervision for registered dietitians who see clients with eating disorders. Heidi strives to assist all of her clients in improving their relationships with food and their bodies, using concepts of mindfulness and intuitive eating. Multidisciplinary collaboration is one of the most rewarding parts of her work. 
 
 
Roberta Sherman, PhD, FAED
Roberta Trattner Sherman, PhD, FAED is a psychologists in private practice in Bloomington, Indiana, specializing in the treatment of eating disorders. Dr. Sherman has provided clinical and consulting services to the Athletic Department at Indiana University-Bloomington for the past 25 years. She has served as a consultant on eating disorders and other mental health issues to the NCAA, and coauthored the NCAA Coaches Handbook: Managing the Female Athlete Triad, and Managing Student-Athletes’ Mental Health Issues. Roberta has also consulted with the Medical Commission of the International Olympic Committee on issues related to disordered eating and coauthored the Disordered Eating section of the IOC Medical Commission’s Position Stand on the Female Athlete Triad and most recently assisted in the development of the Healthy Body Image Project, a health initiative by the IOCMC for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games. She has presented at more than 100 regional, national, and international professional conferences. Roberta's publications include the books Bulimia: A Guide for Family and Friends, Helping Athletes with Eating Disorders, The Exercise Balance, and Eating Disorders in Sport. Dr. Sherman is a Fellow in the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED) and jointly received the AED’s 2008 Leadership Award for Clinical, Administrative, or Educational Service.
 
Charles Strauss, MSW, LICSW
Charles Strauss, MSW, LICSW works with clients in private practice across the full range of gender and sexuality, providing individual relationship, and family therapy for both youth and adults. He has a collaborative style and uses a combination of techniques, including narrative, psychodynamic, family systems, and play therapy. He is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health and was awarded the Bisexual Resource Center's Unsung Hero Award. Charles takes a nuanced, whole-person approach to gender and sexuality. Not all clients will want to address any particular issue in therapy. Nevertheless, everyone deserves a therapist who has respect and reverence for the whole client.

 
Hunter Taylor, MS, LCP
Hunter Taylor, MS, LCP is the Clinical Director of Rosewood's adult services. Hunter brings 36 years of experience working in eating disorders, addictions, psycho-education and mental health management to Rosewood. Believing the modality of psychodrama is an important component of recovery, Hunter regularly conducts attends professional trainings and conducts workshops for ONSITE in Tennessee. Hunter holds a Master’s of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Fort Hays State University, in Fort Hayes, Kansas.
 
Jennifer Thomas, PhD
Dr. Jennifer Thomas is Assistant Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School; Assistant Director of the Eating Disorders Clinical and Research Program at Massachusetts General Hospital; and Assistant Psychologist at McLean Hospital’s Klarman Eating Disorders Center. She has published over 40 articles and chapters on eating disorders, is an active member of the Eating Disorders Research Society, and is co-author of the forthcoming book Almost Anorexic (Hazelden, June 2013). Ron Thompson, PhD, FAED
Ron Thompson, PhD, FAED is a psychologists in private practice in Bloomington, Indiana, specializing in the treatment of eating disorders. Dr. Thompson has provided clinical and consulting services to the Athletic Department at Indiana University-Bloomington for the past 25 years. He has served as a consultant on eating disorders and other mental health issues to the NCAA, and coauthored the NCAA Coaches Handbook: Managing the Female Athlete Triad, and Managing Student-Athletes’ Mental Health Issues. Margaret Waller, LICSW, PhD
Peg Waller is a mental health professional, working for over 35 years as a community social worker, a school adjustment counselor, a family therapist, and a long term psychotherapist in private practice.  She received her MSW and PhD from Smith College School for Social Work.  Her doctoral internship was in the Cambridge Hospital’s Psychiatry Department (Harvard Medical School), where she then became a supervisor and lecturer.  It is from her perspective as a mom that she presents at the MEDA Annual Conference in an effort to understand some of the many dynamics related to the 3+ year journey she took with her late adolescent child on the road to recovery, in the hope that these insights might be of use to others.
 
Ken Weiner, MD, FAED, CEDS
Dr. Ken Weiner has been active in the treatment of Eating Disorders in Denver for more than 25 years. Recognized as a national expert in the treatment of Eating Disorders, he lectures extensively in the United States. He continues to be instrumental in designing and delivering state-of-the- art, high quality patient care. Dr. Weiner created and directed Columbine Psychiatric Center Eating Disorders Program from 1988-1992, Bethesda Eating Disorder Program from 1992-1998 and Eating Disorder Center of Denver from 2002-2007. Eating Recovery Center was established October 2008 in Denver, Colorado as a joint effort with colleague Dr. Emmett Bishop. Dr. Weiner is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine and has received the prestigious Gold Apple Teaching Award from the medical school and The Best Teacher Award from the Psychiatric Residency Training Program (2007). He has been named a Fellow of the Academy of Eating Disorders, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and received the National Eating Disorders Award (2006) for co-founding the Eating Disorders Foundation in Colorado. A dedicated clinician and teacher, Dr. Weiner has co-authored numerous articles on eating disorders.
 
Jesine Xavier, PsyD
Dr. Jesine Xavier is currently in private practice in Cambridge and Needham, MA conducting individual, group, family and couples therapy. She attended Tufts University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, and then went on to attain a Doctorate of Psychology degree from Illinois School of Professional Psychology. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Multi-service Eating Disorder Association. In addition to being trained in the Maudsley method/Family-Based Treatment (FBT), she has been trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and is a member of an adolescent DBT consultation team led by Michael Hollander, Ph.D. Previously, she was director of the Adolescent Intensive Outpatient (IOP) program at Walden Behavioral Care. Her areas of expertise include adolescents, families, high-risk behaviors, and multi-problematic clients.
 
Stephanie Zerwas, PhD
Dr. Stephanie Zerwas is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the University North Carolina School of Medicine and Associate Research Director of the University of North Carolina Eating Disorder Program. She is a member of the Academy for Eating Disorders Social Media Committee and is active on social media networks, particularly on Twitter (@sczerwas).
