Gunsaulus Scholastic Academy is dedicated to nurturing and developing a community of passionate, loving, and respectful life-long learners and leaders who empower themselves as global citizens. Our mission is Learn.Grow.Serve. Our school is located in the heart of the Brighton Park neighborhood. As a Scholastic Academy, we are a magnet school that offers an enriching experience for all of our 765 students in grades PK-8th. We thrive on creating a community school that meets our student and family needs both academically and socio-emotionally. Our student body is 91.5% Hispanic, 3.1% African American, 2.1% Asian, 1.1% White, and 2.2% other. We also have a diverse learning population of 11.8% and 84.7% of our families are considered low income. We excitedly started our Leader in Me journey last school year by learning about the habits and striving as a staff and as individuals to live the habits before we taught them. We then slowly introduced the habits in classrooms during the second semester last school year. Staff and students kicked off this school year by diving right into the First 8 Days and immersing ourselves in learning about the 7 Habits. For the remainder of the year we have a scope and sequence laid out that allows the school to learn about the different habits at the same time with each month focusing on a different habit. Teachers utilize the lessons from the Leadership Guides and teach them during our extended Morning Meetings on Tuesdays. The habits are also immersed into different aspects and lessons during the school day as well. Our students and staff are excited to bring the 7 Habits into our school and we look forward to seeing where this journey leads us and building all of our leadership skills.
