Adriana Canales

From Saltillo Coahuila. Adriana Canales studied at the Faculty of Jurisprudence of the Autonomous University of Coahuila, where she received her law degree in 1979. She obtained a Master Degree in Policy and Government in Latin America from the University of Essex in England. She has obtained different diplomas in Comparative Law Mexico-United States, in Judicial Psychology from the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM), and a Diploma in Legal Advances in Human Cloning through the International Organization of Postgraduates Studies in Law. She has recently been involved in the following courses: Courses on Psychology and Family law against Interfamily violence from the Centro de Convivencia Familiar from the Superior Court of Justice of Mexico City, the Judiciary Council and the Institute of Judicial Studies; Courses on Children’s rights and access to justice taught by the Supreme Court of Justice, as well as a course on Mediation taught by the University of Barcelona in Spain. Additionally, she attended courses on forensic psychology specialised in girls, boys and adolescents taught by the Supreme Court. Since 2004 she has participated in several international seminars of judges operators of the Hague Conventions on International Child Protection and International Judicial Cooperation. The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointed her in 2007 as the Judge in charge of the International connection to facilitate the information exchange and cooperation regarding the application of the 1980 Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.

She was professor at the Institute of Legal Research at UNAM in different courses, among them on interfamily violence and child protection. She was also professor at ITAM and at CIDE, where she published the book on civil law “Family law: cases and problems to teach law” together with Diego Galer. She has also been author of different articles, among them, “Right of cross-border contact” in the book “The International Restitution of Childhood, an Ibero-American Perspective”, compiled by Lázaro Tenorio and Graciela Tagle, as well as in in the Journal of Private International Law of the UNAM and in the Mexican Journal of Comparative International Law.
During the last years she has been lecturer on different subjects, including interdiction and the perspective of judges about international restitution of minors, among others. She joined the Superior Court of Justice of the Federal District in 1989 to the Direction of Jurisprudence and the judicial newsletter. Since 2000 Adriana Canales is Magistrate of the Third Chamber on Family Law. She collaborated as unique local judge in Ramos Arizpe in the Superior Court of Coahuila in the Direction of Prevention and Social Rehabilitation. She also worked at the Faculty of Political Science in UNAM, at the Ministry of Energy, in the General Direction of Land Regularization of the Federal District and at the Ministry of the Interior.

Antonia Stolper is Shearman & Sterling’s Latin America Regional Managing Partner and a member of the Capital Markets-Americas practice group. Ms Stolper’s practice focuses primarily on corporate finance transactions in emerging markets. Her practice focuses on debt and equity securities offerings for Latin American corporate and sovereign issuers, representing both underwriters and issuers, and on restructuring transactions in Latin America, representing issuers, dealer managers and creditors. In addition, she advises a number of Latin American issuers on their ongoing SEC reporting requirements and corporate governance matters. Her clients including Ecopetrol, CABEI, Intercorp, Volaris and Banco de Chile.

Ms. Stolper also advises the Climate Bonds Initiative pro bono on establishing standards for financing the transition to a low carbon economy. Ms Stolper is also Vice- Chair of the Cyrus R. Vance Center of the New York City Bar Association, promoting pro bono work by private lawyers in Latin America. She also sits on the Women in the Profession (WIP) International Steering Committee, a Vance Center program that promotes the status of women in the legal profession. She was named one of the National Law Journal’s Outstanding Women Lawyers in 2015 and selected by Latinvex in 2015 as among Latin America’s top 50 female lawyers. Ms Stolper is a graduate of Yale University (B.A.) and New York University Law School (J.D.)
 
Carolina Machado

Carolina Machado is a licensed lawyer by ITAM (Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México) who obtained an LLM from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. At the beginning of her career, Carolina worked at the law firms Creel García Cuéllar y Muggengburg in the Mexico City and Shearman & Sterling in New York. In 1997, she joined JPMorgan´s Legal and Compliance Department in Mexico, which she led as General Counsel from 1999 to 2015, dealing with financial transactions in Markets and Structured Products, M & A, Capital Markets, Private Bank, Treasury Services, Agency and Trust Services and Private Equity. In 2015, she transferred to New York to assist in the establishment of the Global Financial Crimes Legal Department for Latin America at JPMorgan. Carolina was appointed General Counsel for ICG (Institutional and Corporate Clients) of Citibanamex (part of Citigroup) in June 2016, reporting to Mexico´s General Counsel.

Carolina Machado is part of the Women´s Council (“Consejo de Mujeres”) at Citibanamex, and is a founding director and board member of Abogadas MX, a Mexican Association whose mission is to promote the inclusion of women in the legal profession in leadership positions.
 
Carrie H. Cohen

Carrie H. Cohen is a partner in the New York office of Morrison & Foerster. She is an experienced trial attorney, focusing on white-collar criminal matters, securities and investment fraud cases, internal investigations, regulatory enforcement proceedings, bribery, procurement, and money laundering. Previously, she was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, where she tried public corruption, investment fraud, and securities cases.

Ms Cohen also served in the New York State Attorney General’s Office as Chief of the Public Integrity Unit in the Criminal Division, and as an Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Bureau. Among her many public service roles, Ms Cohen has held numerous bar leadership positions, including serving as the past Vice President of the New York City Bar, and chair of its Executive Committee. Ms Cohen currently serves on the Advisory Group to the New York Federal-State Judicial Council, as a representative to the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates, and as a member of the Federal Bar Council, American Inns of Court. Ms Cohen has also been a leader in advancing women in the legal profession both in the United States and globally, and she currently serves as a member of the New York City Bar’s Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice, where she serves on the International Steering Committee for the Women in the Profession (WIP) program, which promotes the status of women in the legal profession. Ms Cohen is a graduate of Cornell University (B.A.) and the University of Pennsylvania Law School (J.D.)
 
Irene Espinosa

Economist and finance officer, Irene Espinosa Cantellano owns a remarkable career of more than 25 years of experience in the financial sector, mainly in the public field, as well as in the academy. On January of 2018, the Plenary of the Permanent Commission of the Congress approved Irene’s appointment as Deputy Governor of Banco de México, making her the first woman to hold that position since the creation of the Bank in 1925. Before joining Banco de México, Irene was designated as Federal Treasurer of Mexico, position which she hold from April of 2009 to January of 2018. Irene was also invited to be Chief of Staff of the former Federal Treasurer; subsequently, she assumed the position of Deputy Treasurer of Operations until she was appointed as Head of the Federal Treasury.

In the international filed, in 2001, Irene was appointed as Senior Counselor of the Office of the Executive Director for Mexico and the Dominican Republic of the Inter-American Development Bank, for a period of 6 years. Within her extracurricular activities, Irene has been an advocate to promote and increase the participation of women in leadership and decision making positions. From March of 2016, she has gathered a group of leading women to create the Comisión de Mujeres Líderes por una Economía Incluyente (MULEI), an organism belonging the Federación de Colegios de Economistas de la República Mexicana, to foster dialogue with institutions and key actors on the benefits of diversity and participation of women in the economy, as well as to make them visible.

Recently, Irene assumed the Vice-presidency of the Federación de Colegios de Economistas de la República and the Vice-presidency of the Alumni of Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ExITAM). Irene has a Master degree in Public Policy with a Specialization in Projects’ Socioeconomic Assessment and a Bachelor degree in Economics, both from ITAM, where she also received the prize for Academic Excellence Miguel Palacios Macedo. In 2011, the Chamber of Senators, through the Equity and Gender Commission, granted her recognition as Woman of the Year, for her outstanding career and contribution to the country's development.
In November of the same year, Irene received the Professional Merit Reward by the ITAM, for her outstanding performance in the public sector.

Manuel is a specialized tax attorney with vast experience in international tax law. Through this NGO, Valeria launched an innovative mentoring program in Mexico that pairs senior lawyers from corporations and law firms with junior lawyers to guide their professional growth and share best practices.
