Learn how to view failure as a gift and remove fears powered by leaning into risk to find it's ultimate reward ... freedom.

On My Watch - Event Security & Crisis Management (Two Parts)

After months of planning, you have arrived onsite for your meeting and, everything is running smoothly…until it’s not. No one can realistically plan for every possible crisis situation that may arise during an event, but our panelists will share with you real event safety and security emergencies, and the lessons learned from the experience.

This two-part session will explore the do’s and don’ts of communications, working with law enforcement agencies, onsite security issues and exit strategy tips.

Advocacy and Public Affairs: Failures and Successes

This session will explore in detail the five key characteristics of successful advocacy campaigns:
1. You have a story to tell, not simply a demand.
2. You avoid “scorched earth” and “one size fits all” strategies.
3. You are one of many diverse messengers.
4. You’re a resource, not just an advocate.
5. You invest the time and the resources.

Challenges of International Attendees Coming to US Conferences (Two Parts)
The session will focus on challenges that meeting planners face when hosting international delegates attending meetings in the US. We will discuss issues, such as the most recent Executive Order on Travel and its effect on our industry; we will hear stories from planners who have recently faced those challenges and how they dealt with them; we will consider visa issues and learn about resources available to planners and individual business travelers from the State Department Visa Center.

Part two will focus on solutions, best practices, and useful resources. Learn how you can proactively respond to the challenges and not only minimize the effects, but also come out with new tools and best practices.  We will hear from a representative of “Meetings Mean Business” and their take on the travel ban and what they do to represent our industry in the face of challenges.

How PCMA Gets It Right by Getting It Wrong
PCMA has staked its brand on building transparency into its events, so they function as real-time learning labs where attendees encounter the latest innovations in meeting design — and instantly see which ones work and which don’t.

In this session, you’ll learn about some of PCMA’s greatest misses from Convening Leaders, Education Conference, and other programs, and how they led to even better live experiences.

Fear Is For Suckers! How To Embrace Failure and Make Fear Your Homeboy

How would your life change if you weren't burdened by a fear of failure, you finally started crossing those dreams off of your list, you felt more confident to ask for what you want, or you looked at mistakes as gifts?

Through personal stories, Improv games and with more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, this interactive session will help participants understand how to embrace failure and manage fear.

Fail Greatly - Achieve Greatly
Failure can be looked at in many ways…however in the business of live events it can be fatal.  Yet we all knows it occurs: the computer won’t boot (it worked yesterday), your phone shuts down (right before you are boarding a flight), the cable goes out (just as the football game is about to begin).

In the world of live events and conferences…failure of equipment is easy to manage. But what about your willingness to fail as you push the limits to create new experiences at your events, engage your attendees in new and interesting ways.
