Christine Anderson MFIA CFRE

Following a successful career in global sales and marketing in the for profit sector, Christine joined leading Canadian charity Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation in 2009 to provide strategic leadership and execution of
an integrated business plan to maximise registrations, fundraising, sponsorship and net revenue for the Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Women’s Cancers, the largest fundraising walk of its kind in North America.

After building annual revenues of $10 million in this role, she moved to Australia in December 2012 to introduce the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers across the country. In its first year in Australia, the program raised over $12 million. Since then Christine’s role has grown to include leadership of both the Ride to Conquer Cancer and Weekend to End Women’s Cancers programs in Australia and New Zealand, and the launch of new events and initiatives including the OneDay to Conquer Cancer and CauseForce’s participant coaching and logistics services.

Christine is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), member of the FIA QLD state executive committee, and holds a B. Comm, Marketing and MBA, Marketing and International Business from McMaster University.

Precis: With the Ride to Conquer Cancer and OneDay to Conquer Cancer events as prime examples, Christine will share how organisations of any size can use multi-channel tactics to achieve success in your peer to peer fundraising events.
 
Harriett Carter

Now in her seventh year with Strategic Grants, Harriett Carter is a senior fundraising and communications specialist with a passion for writing, proven skills in the non-profit, corporate and government sectors and driven motivation to deliver results. As Strategic Grants’ National Manager, Harriett works with a broad range of non-profits to strengthen their grant-seeking programs and loves having played a part in achieving hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant funding for her clients. Constantly preaching the 80/20 rule of “engagement above all”, Harriett works closely with charities and not-for-profits to help steward and strengthen the relationships in their grant partnerships.

As a communications professional with more than 18 years' experience, Harriett's career highlights include Corporate Communications Manager for Queensland's Residential Tenancies Authority, Account Manager at leading Brisbane branding and design agency, NOUS, and a range of senior communications roles across both the private and public sectors.

Steve joined Mater Foundation's Executive Team in December 2016.

Commencing an early career as a Secondary school teacher, Steve has held senior management roles in regional, state and national sporting bodies, as well as the National Managing Director of a well-known Australian sporting products manufacturer / distributor.

For the last decade Steve has utilised his teaching and commercial experience within the charity sector focussing on both philanthropic and commercial (lottery) areas. His last role of nine years was CEO / Head of the national Surf Life Saving Foundation.
Steve is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a member of the Australian Institute of Management and member of the Fundraising Institute of Australia.
 
Matt Lang MFIA

Fundraising and philanthropy are in Matt’s DNA as a third generation fundraiser from the Lang clan.Having worked for some of Australia’s most trusted and enduring charities including The Salvation Army, Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Mater Foundation, Matt loves to serve the community.

Although Matt has experience up and down the fundraising pyramid, Major Gifts is his primary passion. In his humble opinion there is no greater feeling than cultivating, securing and stewarding a big gift that makes a big impact on the community. Matt met Paul White, the CEO of the Brisbane Broncos at a business breakfast in September last year. Four weeks later he was on his way to pioneer the role of Fundraising Manager at the Broncos. Matt’s role is the first full time role of its kind in the National Rugby League. When Matt’s not fundraising, you’ll find him on his boat with his wife Tanya and their three kids.
 
Mr Shannon Laverack MFIA

Shannon is the GM Fundraising and Marketing of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, a charity aligned with The Prince Charles Hospital and whose mission is to support health and medical research – tackling Australia’s most chronic diseases.

Prior to this role Shannon has been the National Fundraising Manager, Surf Life Saving Foundation, and Direct Marketing Manager, The Cerebral Palsy League of Qld.

Proudly part of the not-for-profit sector in Australia for over 17 years Shannon says it’s important to remember that fundraising isn’t about money, it’s about inspiring work that urgently needs doing. He is privileged to be able to connect the caring people with the people doing the work that’s important to them.

Precis: Honouring the promise to our donors – the focus of the communications that don’t have a direct ask. Thanking our donors, ensuring great customer service, communicating impact, considering what’s in it for the donor and the frequency and quality of the content.
 
Kaz McGrath

Kaz is the Marketing Coordinator for Act for Peace’s award winning Ration Challenge. Since 2015 Kaz has managed the team that has grown the Ration Challenge’s income by more than 300% year on year and is currently playing a key role in taking the challenge
International.

Kaz started working for Act for Peace in 2013 as their Media and Communications coordinator after graduating from the University of Wollongong with honours in Marketing Communications and Commerce. Prior to Act for Peace Kaz worked at Student Marketing Australia, The ACT Conservation Council and Flight Centre. She has travelled throughout India and South East Asia teaching english and volunteering for a number of local organisations.

Kaz is passionate about using digital marketing to empower communities to network, take action and create real change. She describes herself as a strategic thinker who promotes innovation and risk-taking.

Wendy Scaife FFIA

Wendy leads an experienced team that delivers research, teaching and sector impacts, ranging from cutting red tape to opening up topics like evaluation and accountability in grantmaking. She is National Project Director of Giving Australia - the nation’s largest ever research into giving and volunteering in partnership with CSI Swinburne and the Centre for Corporate Public Affairs. Wendy assists Philanthropy Australia’s Queensland’s Funder’s Network; serves on government bodies, philanthropic grants committees and international research boards; chairs a community organisation and was previously CEO of a health nonprofit. Last year her work was recognised with a QUT Vice-Chancellor’s Performance Award and she is a nominee for two QUT Vice-Chancellor’s Team Excellence Awards this year.
 
Karen Shields MFIA

Karen Shields has over 20 years of international direct marketing experience spanning both the commercial and non-profit sectors. In her 10 year career with Cancer Council Queensland, she has been responsible for major fundraising programs including bequests, direct mail, face-to-face and door-to-door fundraising. More recently her efforts have been focussed on establishing a digital fundraising strategy, based on innovation and best-practice. Her senior management contributions include capital appeals for the $8 million CCQ Palliative Care Centre in Townsville and the Central Queensland Education and Accommodation Centre in Rockhampton. Her expertise is drawn from many years of marketing for leading UK brands. She has championed initiatives to diversify Cancer Council Queensland’s fundraising portfolio and enable the organisation to better understand and connect with supporters.
 
Sonya Tufnell MFIA CFRE

Sonya started fundraising while living in London in 2002 and accidentally fell in love with the profession. She has managed all aspects of fundraising, and now at the Heart Foundation (Qld Division) she has been inspired by some of the best bequest fundraising that she has ever seen. She loves innovation and testing new things and has learnt so much from other organisations.
