SPEAKER INTRODUCTIONS

Jennifer A. Boquiren-Quitevis RN, MSN

Director of the Renal Business Group at the Regional Offices. The Renal Business Group oversees the Business Strategy, Quality, and Operations of the Regnal Program for Southern California. Jennifer has been with Kaiser Permanente for over 11 years, in which she has had multiple other roles as an Administrative Hospital RN Supervisor, Project Manager, RN Ambulatory Supervisor, Department Administrator, Director of Education, and Ambulatory Care Practice Leader. She has a Bachelors in Nursing and a Minor in Psychology from Mount Saint Mary’s College; and a Masters in Nursing specializing in Nursing Administration from the University of California, Los Angeles. In her spare time, she enjoys being with her four handsome sons and husband doing activities such: as biking, camping, and snowboarding.


Jerilyn L. Crain

Hospitalization is a challenging and often emotional time for our members and their loved ones. Understanding this journey will help you to create a healing environment during this most difficult time in their lives.

Jerilyn has served as a Patient Partner for Kaiser Permanente for 12 years. She began providing support while riding the Radiation Bus. Her thought was why not seize this opportunity, and turn this daunting, boring, confining 3 hour ride into a caring, supporting experience. Thus the bus ride soon became known as the "Radiation Party Bus...."

She sits on Patient Safety Advisory Councils for Downey & Cerritos locations and has been a featured faculty member in numerous educational programs, conferences and seminars. She has also been the keynote speaker at many of our other regions, addressing the importance of patient involvement.

Jerilyn is a peer supporter for breast cancer patients, and began her own support group in 2006. "The Living Bra's".

Currently she serves on the National Nursing Leadership Committee and the National PFCC Strategic Workgroup.

Jerilyn is a retired Customer Service Director, lives in Cerritos, California with her husband Lattimore, has three adult children, 6 grand children of whom she is very proud.

She enjoys shopping, spending time with family, where they enjoy each day as they Celebrate Life!!!


Cecelia L. Crawford, DNP, RN

A champion for the nursing profession for over 36 years. She received an ADN from Solano Community college, a BSN and MSN from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona. During her 19 years at the bedside, Cecelia made multiple contributions to medical-surgical, critical care, and critical adult/pediatric burn nursing. Those formative years allowed Cecelia to develop skills in nursing education, perceptorship, and staff mentoring. After several years as a nurse educator with a passion for evidence-based practice, Cecelia joined Kaiser Permanente Southern California Patient Care Services and the Regional Nursing Research Program. A major focus of her work is related the evaluation and synthesis of evidence for patient care, clinical practice, and healthcare programs. She provides leadership and consultation for evidence-based practice and program evaluation to the 14 Southern California medical centers of Kaiser Permanente and to safety net hospitals. She is the founder and leader of the Academy for Evidence-Based Practice, where she mentors healthcare professionals in evidence appraisal. She has completed 45 evidence reviews and created resources for program evaluations related to pain, HAPU, elder care, and mobility. Dr. Crawford has multiple publications describing the results of research studies, evidence reviews, and other clinically relevant topics. Cecelia's vision is to translate the evidence so it is meaningful for nurses and other healthcare clinicians and make the evidence accessible to the people who need it – the nurse and the patient.


Kathrina Galang, RN

A registered nurse with an extensive background in critical and ambulatory care nursing. She currently works at the center for wound healing in Wood land Hills CA, and is the co –lead for the unit-based teams.

In this role, she has championed several projects including the infection reduction and safety projects. She has also been instrumental in organizing the team’s meetings and huddles and making sure the team’s performance improvement work stays on track.

Katrina has indeed demonstrated leadership and professionalism throughout her nursing career as she continues to strive for excellence in her practice setting.


Irene Kuwaki-Chuman, RN, BSN, PHN, MHA

Earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing at UCLA and her Master's Degree in Hospital Administration at the University of La Verne. She has worked in ambulatory management for the past 19 years. She oversees Ambulatory clinical practice at Baldwin Park Medical Center as well as Employee Health Services and Staff Education and Training Department. As the Ambulatory Care Practice Leader she is responsible for collaborating with multiple stakeholders to ensure high quality care, scope of practice, compliance, safety and education & training in ambulatory care clinical practice.


Linda Leavell, RN, PhD

Executive Director for National Patient Care Services (N.P.C.S.). In this capacity, she leads the work of N.P.C.S. and she is responsible for the overall operations, performance, and nursing strategy. Linda has been with KP for eleven years and has served as Chief Nursing Officer at Sacramento Medical Center for two of those years, before joining N.P.C.S.

Linda has been a registered nurse for over forty years and during that time has been a critical care nurse, director of education and research, administrative director, chief nursing officer and chief operating officer. Linda has worked in an operations capacity in both for-profit and non for-profit organizations and brings a wide range of experience and knowledge to her role . Linda is a diploma graduate from Lawrence General Hospital; a B.S. from Chapman College; a M.P.H. from California State University, Northridge; and a Ph.D. (emphasis in Healthcare Administration) from Walden University. In addition, Linda graduated from the Executive Leadership Program, Harvard Business School.


Aileen Oh, RN, MSN

A Registered Nurse for 17 years. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing at Mount Saint Mary's College and her Master's Degree in Nursing Administration at UCLA. She has worked in ambulatory for the past 8 years. She is responsible for coordinating the work of the Ambulatory Care Practice Leaders as well as collaborating with multiple stakeholders to ensure high quality care, scope of practice, compliance, safety and education & training in ambulatory care clinical practice is in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission (TJC) and federal and state requirements throughout the Southern CA region.


Cristina Ramirez, RN

Registered Nurse for the last 12 years worked as a staff Nurse in ICU at Olive View UCLA Medical Center and currently working as an Ambulatory Staff Educator/Academic Liaison for Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Medical Center. Currently hold a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Education . I’ve been working as a Ambulatory Staff Educator/Academic Liaison for the last 1 ½ years and enjoy working with students and academia to build a strong partnership between Kaiser and the Schools.


Donna Scemons PhD, FNP-C, CNS

Faculty at CSULA in the XU School of Nursing and continues to actively practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner in family clinics in Los Angeles. She has been actively involved with the academic clinical partnership at Kaiser Permanente. Dr. Scemons has presented internationally, nationally, and locally on a wide variety of topics. She is an enthusiastic advocate for transdisciplinary teams in the ambulatory setting.


Dawn Vonderheide, MSN, RN-BC

Currently the Ambulatory Clinical Practice Leader for Kaiser Permanente in Orange County. She is responsible for leading and implementing clinical practice scope for the Ambulatory nursing and non-nursing clinical staff. She also has responsibilities include implementation of the National Voice of Nursing Model, enhancement of practice partnership with Cancer Care Coordinators, growing patient and employee safety initiatives, and the Director of the Ambulatory RN Residency Programs. Dawn has a leadership role on the Orange County Labor Management Partnership Council.

Prior to the Ambulatory Clinical Practice leader role, she served for 9 years as a senior Assistant Medical Group Administrator at the Kaiser Permanente Orange County Medical Center and the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center. For over 17 years she led the Quality Improvement programs at the Baldwin Park or Bellflower Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers. Dawn began her Kaiser journey as a Clerk and then a Nurses Aid before becoming a Registered Nurse.

She attended Cerritos College, Norwalk California where she received her AA in Nursing and went on to earn her BSN and MSN at California State University, Los Angeles. She is a graduate of the 4th Cohort 2004-2006 fellowship of the California Health Care Foundation Health Care Leadership Program which is administered by the Center of the Health Professions at the University of California, San Francisco. Dawn is currently a Doctoral of Nursing Practice student where she is focusing on improving patient outcomes and translating research into practice.

Dawn published a book in November 2004 titled, “Applying Quality Methodologies to Improve Healthcare”. She co-designed and published a proactive risk assessment model for Failure Modes and Effects Analysis for Kaiser Permanente. The Kaiser Permanente FMEA Model: Simplified for healthcare personnel. Journal for Healthcare Quality, 27(1), 48-55.

In March 2016 she was a co-author for a poster addressing “Building Culture and Quality: An Office-based Residency Program”. to the 17th Annual Summit on Improving Patient Care in the Office Practice and the Community.
