1. Concepts and Value of Clinical Coding Including 'Drivers of DRG' Presentation

Introduction (Program Overview):
The presentation will be structured into two parts, with each part being led by an experienced Health Information Management and/or Clinical Coding Consultant.

Presentation One briefly introduces ICD-10-AM, Clinical Coding and its structure and requirements of the correct application of standards and conventions to achieve consistent quality data. It will illuminate the complexities of code selection and the significance of detailed and specific clinical information through the health record to code selection and information outcomes as well as discuss the importance of 'coder ethics' particularly in a ABF/DRG funding model.
Presentation Two focuses on application of coding and standards for diseases of national significance i.e. Diabetes mellitus, other chronic diseases, trauma and external mechanisms (causes). Discuss the wealth of information available and highlight the other 'drivers' of AR-DRGs.

Target Audience:

All Healthcare providers interested in understanding what is Clinical Coding and the importance of the conventions and standards used with reliance on good quality clinical documentation. Attendees should include but are not limited to Hospital Executive Department Directors - HIM, Quality, Medical, Nursing, Finance, IT, Physicians, Nursing Staff and Allied Health Professionals, Clinical Documentation Specialists and Clinical Coding.



2. Concepts of Clinical Documentation Improvement Including Steps to 'Building Your Own' CDI Team Presentation

Presentation One briefly introduces Clinical Document Improvement and its value as a hospital clinical and business quality activity and demonstrates to a varied audience on the value of detailed and specific clinical information through the health record to evidence better patient care, business and hospital decisions and opportunities.
Presentation Two: Presentation on implementing a CDI Team and identifying appropriate workforce, competencies and processes for achieving improved clinical documentation quality and better patient care in a healthcare environment.

Target Audience:

All Healthcare providers involved in understanding Clinical Coding its reliance on good clinical documentation including but not limited to Hospital Executive Department Directors – HIM, Quality, Medical, Nursing, Finance, IT, Physicians, Nursing Staff and Allied Health professionals, Clinical Documentation Specialists and Clinical Coding.
