plastics sustainability, but educate others about plastics sustainability in manufacturing applications.
Kelvin Okamoto is the CEO of Gen3Bio, Inc. and the
President of Green Bottom Line, Inc. He
has his B.S. from Stanford University and PhD from Cornell University, both in
Chemistry. He serves on the Bioplastics
Council for SPI, is secretary for the ASTM International subcommittee for
environmentally degradable plastics and biodegradable plastics and has volunteered
for many other organizations around biodegradable and bioplastics.
Gen3Bio works toward commercializing biobased chemicals from feedstocks including algae and agricultural waste that can be used in biopolymers and Green Bottom Line consults with companies to ensure they remain sustainable and make more money while making green decisions.
Professor Margaret Sobkowicz:
Professor Meg Sobkowicz Kline is an assistant professor
in Plastics Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She has a B.S. from Columbia University and
PhD from the Colorado School of Mines, both in Chemical Engineering. She worked as a field engineer in the
petroleum and municipal water treatment industries and is very interested in
how humans impact the planet.
expertise is in renewable polymers, plastics processing, nanocomposites,
organic photovoltaics and electronics and her research focuses on the
convergence of energy, sustainability, and materials. She teaches a materials for renewable energy
course, is heavily involved in the climate change initiative on campus, and
recently was awarded a grant to help increase the participation of women in
industry to discuss ways to utilize SPE to navigate their professional and academic careers.
Formed in teams of 3 or 4 people, you will search for QR codes placed in sponsoring booths. These codes will automatically populate a randomly generated question which will test the team’s knowledge in the fields of polymer science, polymer chemistry, plastics engineering and more. Questions can only be answered by visiting sponsors’ booths!
At the conclusion, the team with the most correct answers will be awarded a fantastic prize.
