Update Trainee CPD
 
 Module 1
Compulsory and comprises 15 hours of personal work over a 12-month period. You will be given a folder that contains a number of compulsory and optional exercises. The compulsory section includes access to online psychometric tests and to exercises that ask you to think about your career progression.
 Module 1 will help you:
recognise and value what you are good at
build confidence in yourself and your professional judgement
look at where you want to be 2 to 5 years from now and put in place specific actions to allow you to get there
demonstrate your skills and abilities to third parties
help you build your cv and complete job application

 Module 2 (Ethics)
A mixture or distance learning and an evening debate allowing you work with other trainees to debate and develop your ability to make complex professional choices in relation to professional ethics and standards.
 Module 2 will help you:
Combine what you have learnt about ethics and professional standards with your practice to date
Develop debating skills
Develop your ability to deal with complexities of ethical choices and the formal requirements of confidentiality, conflict of interest or anti-money laundering

 

 Module 3
Based on a medical negligence case study and requires you to complete a total of 13 hours including preparation, attending a one-day training session and follow-up work. During the training day you will work in a team of trainees and with an actor playing the role of your client.
The next training day will be on 9th November 2016.  To register for this you must be signed up for Update TCPD module 3. 
 Module 3 will help you:
Practice your client facing skills, including interviewing and negotiating
Develop your ability to take instructions and probe for clarity of information
Develop your negotiation, drafting and writing skills


 Module 4 (Personal, Professional and Commercial Development)
Based on a case study of a law firm and requires you to consider a number of problems facing the firm, including financial and business matters, inter-partner tensions and a formal complaint. You will spend 13 hours on it including preparation, attending a one-day training session and follow-up work. During the training day, you will work in a team of trainees and with an actor playing the role of one of the partners of the firm.
 Module 4 will help you:
Learn about the complexities of running a successful law firm
Develop good professional judgement
Understand how to respond to a complaint
