Bryan has provided corporate recovery services for the past 35 years to a wide range of referral sources including banks, solicitors, accountants, money advice services, citizens advice bureaux, and corporate and personal clients. He has been involved in a wide range of different businesses over the years and has had some high profile cases such as the administrations of The Gadget Shop, USC and Optical Express (Southern). Bryan has had six formal insolvency appointments of football clubs in Scotland and 1 in England all of which successfully came through the insolvency process and to this day are still trading. In addition, Bryan has experience in Judicial Factor appointments and has successfully concluded and distributed the relevant estates. He also provides expert witness advice on all aspects of corporate and personal insolvency. Bryan has advised extensively on personal insolvency and was given an accreditation in Professor McBryde’s book on Bankruptcy. He is a past examiner on personal insolvency of the Joint Insolvency Examination Board (JIEB) and has lectured extensively over the years, particularly for ICAS and is former chairman of the ICAS Insolvency Committee. Bryan is a member of ICAS, a Fellow of Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3), a member of The Institute of Credit Management and a former Non-Executive Board Member of the Accountant in Bankruptcy.

William Macreath joined Levy & McRae as a Partner in 1990. He deals mainly with professional clients such as doctors, lawyers and surveyors advising on partnership matters as well as professional issues affecting such clients. He also appears before professional bodies on their behalf and lectures to his own colleagues and other groups on professional matters. A graduate of the University of Glasgow, he has conducted many trials and civil actions during his years with Levy & McRae. He has a special interest in Professional Ethics and its impact on all professionals as they seek a move from self-regulation to external monitoring. He also advises Solicitors, particularly on the Accounts Rules, which play a significant role in the lives of all private practice lawyers. He is a founding Director of the Legal Defence Union - whose objectives are to champion and protect the interests of lawyers. He also represents many lawyers in all matters, particularly professional disputes and complaints which include appearances before the Solicitors' Discipline Tribunal.

John McLeod is a Chartered Accountant and audit partner with Mazars LLP. On qualification in 1991, John joined independent Scottish practice RMD, where he worked for 8 years until its acquisition by Deloitte. Since then, his career has taken him through working in the Big 4, the mid-tier and an independent four partner firm, with almost every move being due to an acquisition or merger rather than any conscious decision! Over the last ten years, John has worked with several of the top legal firms in Scotland, providing accounting, audit and advisory services. He also heads up Mazars’ work in Scotland for the Not-for-profit sector and holds a portfolio of entrepreneurial client audits. At ICAS, John is convenor of the Accounting Standards Committee and a member of the Technical Policy Board. He also spent four years as a member of the Sustainability Committee, working to raise awareness of sustainable business practices among the institute members and the wider business community. Outside work, John is married with two children, lives in Corstorphine and is a member of the 2nd bass section of The Edinburgh Festival Chorus.

Neil is a chartered accountant, working as part of the Scotland tax team. He has over 15 years experience working within big 4 and smaller accountancy practices, advising entrepreneurial clients, owner managed businesses and listed companies in various sectors.

Neil focuses on tax advisory projects for individuals and national / international businesses. He has particular expertise in:

  • general corporate tax, specialising in the taxation of transactions and structuring ie. buy-outs, buy-ins, mergers, acquisitions, demergers and disposals.
  • Capital Allowances identification and planning.
  • R&D and Patent Box tax reliefs.

Neil works closely alongside his clients to ensure he is aware of any current or future matters that may affect their taxation position, providing pro-active advice to reduce exposure where possible
