Jack Bailey

Jack Bailey is Senior Vice President, Policy, Payers and Vaccines at GlaxoSmithKline. In this role, he leads Government Relations, Public Policy, Payer Marketing, National and Regional Accounts, Channel Development & Sales and Contract Management Operations for GSK in the United States. His organization ensures that GSK takes a holistic approach to health care policy and its impact on funding and reimbursement decisions in the United States. Specifically, GSK’s US policy and payer division is responsible for cultivating marketplace conditions that reward investment in innovative R&D. In addition, Mr Bailey is responsible for Puerto Rico operations and GSK’s US Vaccines Business Unit.Mr Bailey joined GSK in May 2009 following a successful eighteen-year career with Eli Lilly, where he most recently served as Senior Vice President, Account-based Markets Division. He had a series of roles of increasing importance while with Lilly, including General Manager for Eli Lilly South Africa and later Area Director for the Sub-Saharan region. Mr currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce.

 
Freda C.Lewis-Hall MD

As Chief Medical Officer of Pfizer, Freda Lewis-Hall leads a team of medical professionals responsible for ensuring the safe, effective and appropriate use of Pfizer’s medicines and vaccines. Trained as a psychiatrist, Dr Lewis-Hall has held leadership positions in academia, medical research, front-line patient care, and at global biopharmaceutical companies including Vertex, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Eli Lilly. Prior to her work in industry, she led research projects for the National Institutes of Health and was Vice Chairperson of the Department of Psychiatry at Howard University College of Medicine.

In 2010, Dr Lewis-Hall was appointed by the Obama Administration to the Board of Governors for the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), and in 2012 she was chosen to chair the Cures Acceleration Network Review Board and serve on the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences Advisory Council of the National Institutes of Health. She also sits on the boards of Harvard Medical School and Save the Children. Dr Lewis-Hall was named one of Savoy’s Top Influential Women in Corporate America in 2012 and as the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association 2011 “Woman of the Year.” A passionate advocate for empowering patients through health information, she speaks frequently in venues from TEDMED to the Essence Music Festival and appears regularly on daytime television shows including The Doctors and Dr. Phil.

In January 2014, Mr Cordani was recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the “50 Most Powerful People in Healthcare.”Mr Cordani’s career at Cigna spans more than 20 years; his leadership experiences cross critical disciplines of distribution, marketing, clinical management, underwriting and finance. Prior to joining Cigna, Mr Cordani was with Coopers & Lybrand. He actively works with The American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, ChildObesity180 and the Achilles International Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans. Esther Dyson

Esther Dyson is Chairman of EDventure Holdings and Founder of HICCup.co, for Health Initiative Coordinating Council.  HICCup is an open-source, evidence-generating project devoted to defining and testing a business model for producing community health (not health care) that will return profits to investors and health to the participants. It will use a contest in order to entice the best communities to compete and to give their successes and (educational) failures visibility. Its slogan: "Five places, five metrics, five years!" 

In addition, Ms Dyson spends her time investing in and nurturing start-ups, with a recent focus on health care and aerospace.  From October 2008 to March of 2009, she lived in Star City outside Moscow, Russia, training as a backup cosmonaut.  On the health side, she is an investor in 23andMe (also a Director), Applied Proteomics, Crohnology, Eligible API,  Genomera, GeriJoy,  GreenGoose (closed), Health Loop, HealthRally, HealthTap, i2Dx, Keas (also an Advisor), Medivo, mEquilibrium, Omada Health, Organized Wisdom, PatientsLikeMe, PatientsKnowBest (UK), Resilient, Sleepio (UK), StartupHealth, Tocagen, Valkee (Finland), VitaPortal (Russia, also an Advisor) and Voxiva (also a Director).  She recently served on the selection panel for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Young Leader Awards and is active on the "health not healthcare" speaker circuit.

Tom Gentile

GE Healthcare

Tom Gentile was appointed President and CEO of GE Healthcare’s Healthcare Systems division in May of 2011.  Healthcare Systems is GE’s $12 billion business that develops medical technologies including: computed tomography, magnetic resonance, ultrasound, molecular imaging, patient care solutions, x-ray, interventional, life support systems and home health. Mr Gentile is a 15-year GE veteran and most recently spent three years as President and CEO of GE Aviation’s Services division, transforming the services business into a global $7 billion platform. Before Aviation, he held a series of leadership roles in GE Capital’s businesses in the US, France and Australia, overseeing key acquisitions, consumer product launches and driving profitable growth. Before joining GE, he held leadership and strategy roles with McKinsey & Company, American broadcaster CBS, and General Motors. 

Mr Gentile serves as Chairman of the Board of InSightec, a global leader of MR guided focused ultrasound based in Israel. He is also a new member of the American College of Radiology’s Commission on International Relations, creating relationships with other international radiology organizations to exchange information and share ideas for coordinated programs.

Mr Gentile earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics and his MBA from Harvard University, and studied international relations at the London School of Economics.

 
Harry Greenspun MD

Harry Greenspun is the Senior Advisor for Health Care Transformation & Technology at the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions (DCHS), part of Deloitte LLP (United States). He has held a diverse range of clinical and executive roles, and is now responsible for helping Deloitte’s health care, life sciences, and government clients address key health information technology (IT) and clinical transformation issues. Prior to joining Deloitte, he served as Chief Medical Officer for Dell Inc, after serving as Chief Medical Officer for Northrop Grumman Corporation. Distinguished co-author of Reengineering Health Care: A Manifesto for Radically Rethinking Health Care Delivery, Dr Greenspun is recognized as a leader in the health care industry and has been named one of the “50 Most Influential Physician Executives in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare. He serves on the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Digital Health, and has served on advisory boards for the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), Tufts University, George Mason University, and Bloomberg/BNA.As the Chairman of the HIMSS Government Relations Roundtable and as co-chair of the HIMSS task force responsible for creating the white paper entitled Enabling Healthcare Reform Using Information Technology, Dr Greenspun has made recommendations to the Obama Administration and US Congress on the importance of healthcare IT investment to the nation.

Dr Greenspun received his Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, his medical degree from the University of Maryland, and completed his residency and fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, serving as Chief Resident. As a cardiac anesthesiologist, he has practiced in major academic medical centers, as well as community hospitals.

Terry Hisey

Karen Ignagni

As President and Chief Executive Officer of America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), Karen Ignagni is the voice of health insurance plans, representing members that provide health and supplemental benefits to more than 200 million Americans. During Ms Ignagni's tenure as CEO, she has led two mergers with other organizations to form AHIP, making it the leading voice for the health plan community in America.  Recently, AHIP was ranked by Washington Insiders as the second most effective trade association in Washington.

Ms Ignagni has won many accolades for her leadership, earning recognition by leading publications, including the New York Times, National Journal, The Hill, Time Magazine, The Washingtonian, Fortune Magazine, and Modern Healthcare, for her extensive health policy background and intrinsic feel for politics. The National Journal said she is "among the most respected and effective lobbyists in Washington," and also named her as one of the top 25 most influential women in DC. Ms Ignagni is one of only eight individuals to be included in Modern Healthcare’s annual rankings of the "Most Influential People in Healthcare" for each year since its inception - a testament to her continued success and leadership in the industry. Ms Ignagni regularly testifies before Congress on key federal legislation. In recent years, she has appeared before Senate and House committees on matters ranging from health insurance reform to patient protection and access to health care coverage issues. She is a frequent contributor to the national health care dialogue, appearing in  NBC Nightly News, ABC News, CBS Evening News, CNN,  Fox Business, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Associated Press, Reuters, NPR, PBS, USA Today, New England Journal of Medicine, and Health Affairs.

Previously, Ms Ignagni directed the AFL-CIO's Department of Employee Benefits. She was a Professional Staff Member on the US Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee and worked at the US Department of Health and Human Services.

 
Omar Ishrak PhD

Omar Ishrak has served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Medtronic since June 2011. Medtronic has operations in more than 120 countries worldwide and provides therapies that are used to treat a wide range of conditions, including cardiac and vascular diseases, diabetes, neurological and spinal conditions, and more. The Medtronic Mission is to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life for millions of people around the world.

Mr Ishrak joined Medtronic from General Electric Company, where he spent 16 years, most recently as President and CEO of GE Healthcare Systems, a $12 billion division of GE Healthcare, with a broad portfolio of diagnostic, imaging, patient monitoring and life support systems. He also served as an Officer and a Senior Vice President of GE. 

Earlier in his career, Mr Ishrak amassed 13 years of technology development and business management experience, holding leadership positions at Diasonics/Vingmed, and various product development and engineering positions at Philips Ultrasound. Mr Ishrak is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Asia Society and is also on the Health Leadership Council of the Save the Children Foundation. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and PhD. in Electrical Engineering from the University of London, King's College.

 
Deborah Keller
Executive Vice President and Group President, R&D Laboratories
Covance

 Deborah Keller leads Covance’s R&D Laboratories, including Central Laboratory Services, Nonclinical Safety Assessment, Analytical Services, and Discovery and Translational Services. She serves as a member of the Operating Committee, as well as the Executive Committee, and reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Ms Keller's career at Covance began in 1987, when she joined what was then called Hazleton Laboratories in Madison, Wisconsin, as a Quality Assurance Manager. She subsequently held various managerial positions in metabolism and bioanalytical chemistry and headed Global Marketing for Covance's Early Development business. She then spent two years in Harrogate, UK, leading Analytical Services for Labs Europe.

After 14 years in the Early Development businesses, Ms Keller was promoted to Vice President of Global Clinical Trial Management Services and Operations for Central Laboratories, eventually assuming additional responsibilities as Site Head for the Indianapolis facility. In 2006, she was promoted to Corporate Senior Vice President of Central Laboratories. She has held her current role, Executive Vice President and Group President, R&D Laboratories, since 2010.

Ms Keller has dual undergraduate degrees in Life Sciences/Chemistry and Business Administration and Accounting as well as a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

 
Kerry McDermott
Senior Director, Healthcare Technology Policy
West Health

Kerry McDermott is Senior Director, Healthcare Technology Policy for West Health, an independent initiative whose mission is to lower healthcare costs. Current priority areas include advancing interoperability, catalyzing a connected health ecosystem to improve individual and population health, and transforming care processes through use of enabling technologies.

Prior to joining West Health, Ms McDermott was Director of Healthcare for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). She led the agency-wide healthcare agenda, which included advancing wireless health technologies and enabling higher quality care through expanding broadband connectivity for healthcare providers. She co-authored the healthcare section of the National Broadband Plan, advised the White House Health IT Task Force, and served as the FCC’s liaison on healthcare issues across government agencies and to industry. She has testified before Congress on rural health challenges and participated in World Economic Forum mobile health initiatives.

Previously, Ms McDermott held strategy and operations positions at CIGNA HealthCare, and roles in consulting, finance, and education. She holds a Master’s in Public Health from Yale University.

 
Sandra Peterson

Sandra (Sandi) E. Peterson is Group Worldwide Chairman and Member of the Executive Committee, of Johnson & Johnson. She joined Johnson & Johnson in December 2012 and is responsible for both enterprise capabilities and consumer-facing businesses. Within her area of accountability are the Consumer Group of Companies, consumer-directed medical device businesses Johnson & Johnson Vision Care and Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Care Franchise, and enterprise functions Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain, Information Technology, Wellness and Prevention, and Global Strategic Design. Prior to joining Johnson & Johnson, Ms Peterson had an extensive global career in healthcare, consumer goods and consulting. Most recently, she was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bayer CropScience AG in Germany. At Bayer, she had previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Bayer Medical Care and President of Bayer HealthCare AG’s Diabetes Care Division.

Before joining Bayer in 2005, Ms Peterson held a number of leadership roles at Medco Health Solutions (previously known as Merck-Medco). Among her responsibilities was the application of information technology to healthcare systems. She also previously i led research and development, quality and regulatory affairs, and procurement at Nabisco, Inc., and worked in strategy, finance and product development at Whirlpool Corporation. She began her career as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, Inc. 

Sandi holds a BA in Government from Cornell University and an M.P.A. in Applied Economics from Princeton University. She is a Member of the Board of Directors of The Dun & Bradstreet Corporation.

 
Lori Reilly
Vice-President for Policy and Research
Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA)

Lori Reilly is Vice-President for Policy and Research at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).  Her primary focus is overseeing PhRMA’s development of legislative and policy analysis and research studies on a range of health care issues including 340B, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) policy issues, the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising/marketing and promotion, and comparative effectiveness research. Ms Reilly works to develop and implement legislative, regulatory and political strategies to successfully navigate the ever-changing federal health care landscape.
In addition to her public policy work, Ms Reilly is a frequent presenter on industry-related issues and is an industry spokesperson. She testified before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health to discuss the importance of the reauthorization of the pediatric exclusivity program and the Food and Drug Administration Globalization Act.

Prior to joining PhRMA, Ms Reilly was Counsel at the US House of Representatives Committee on Commerce. Before joining the House Commerce Committee, she was Chief of Staff/Counsel to Rep. Jon Christensen, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee.
Ms Reilly is currently a Board Member of the Personalized Medicine Coalition and is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of The Food and Drug Law Institute’s Policy Forum. In addition, she is on the Board of Humanitarian Relief International, an organization dedicated to supporting charitable and disaster relief efforts.

Ms Reilly received a BA in Political Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she graduated with Honors, and a JD from the University of Nebraska College of Law. She is a Member of the Virginia Bar.

Michael (Mike) Ross is Area Vice President, Healthcare for Verizon Enterprise Solutions. He and his team are growing Verizon’s Health IT practice by delivering technology solutions for voice, data and machine-to-machine (M2M). Mr Ross has 23 years in the wireless industry with a unique blend of experience that covers enterprise, business-to-business (B2B), retail, indirect and business strategy. This experience set gives Mr Ross a diverse view of the evolving solutions strategies. Prior to his role with Verizon Enterprise Solutions, Mr Ross held several positions including Vice President of Healthcare & Retail Verticals for the Enterprise & Government Organization of Verizon Wireless. On the regional level, he was an Associate Director of Retail Stores, Director of Indirect Agents and Retailers, Director of Business for Philadelphia Region responsible for all B2B segments, and Director of Strategy for Business Markets. Mr Ross earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Business from Rowan University.

 
Stephen Rusckowski

Steve Rusckowski is President and Chief Executive Officer of Quest Diagnostics. Since joining Quest Diagnostics in May 2012, Mr Rusckowski has focused on transforming the company, based on its compelling vision of ‘‘Empowering better health with diagnostic insights.’’ Under his leadership, the company has refocused on its core diagnostic information services business, sold non-core assets, delivered disciplined deployment, including share repurchases and acquisitions, and simplified its organizational structure to better serve customers by removing complexity, speeding decision making and empowering employees. Prior to joining Quest Diagnostics, Mr Rusckowski was CEO of Philips Healthcare, which became the largest unit of Royal Philips Electronics under his leadership. He joined Philips in 2001 when it acquired the Healthcare Solutions Group he was leading at Hewlett-Packard/Agilent Technologies.

Mr Rusckowski is a member of the Board of Directors of Covidien, a healthcare products provider, and Project Hope, a global health education and humanitarian assistance organization. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a Master of Science degree in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management.

 
Charles W. Sorenson MD

Intermountain Healthcare

Charles Sorenson, MD, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Intermountain Healthcare. He served as its Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from 1998 until he assumed his current role at the end of 2008. Dr Sorenson is a board-certified Urologic Surgeon. He began his practice at LDS Hospital in 1982. 

His professional activities have included serving as President of the Medical Staff at LDS Hospital, chairing the Committee on Young Surgeons for the American College of Surgeons, and serving as President of the Utah Urologic Society and as Speaker of the House of Delegates of the Utah Medical Association. He is an Adjunct Professor of Surgery at the University of Utah, and he served as Educational Director of LDS Hospital’s Urologic Residency (a joint program with the University of Utah.) In addition to his other responsibilities, Dr Sorenson has had a long-standing interest in clinical process improvement. Under Dr Sorenson’s leadership, Intermountain Healthcare has implemented a disciplined and system-wide focus on implementation of best clinical practices aimed at producing measurably better outcomes for patients. Similar efforts are being applied to operational best practices, aimed at increasing efficiency and holding down healthcare costs.Dr Sorenson is a graduate of the Cornell University Medical College.

 
Andrew Ward
Pharmaceuticals Correspondent
Financial Times

Andrew Ward was named the FT’s pharmaceuticals correspondent in January 2014. In this role he covers the business, politics, science and development aspects of the global pharmaceuticals industry. Prior to this, Mr Ward had been UK News Editor since November 2011. 

Previously, Mr Ward served the FT in a number of foreign reporting roles. He was the Nordic Bureau Chief for two years where he was responsible for coverage of eight countries – Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark and the three Baltic states of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.

Mr Ward has also been the White House Correspondent, during which he covered the Bush administration and the 2008 presidential election campaign. Before moving to Washington, he spent three years covering business and politics in the Southeast US as Atlanta Correspondent. Between 2001 and 2004, he served as Seoul Correspondent, reporting on North and South Korea. Mr Ward joined the FT in 1999 as a graduate trainee in London and was appointed Media Correspondent in 2000.

He received his BA in Politics and Modern History from the University of Manchester, UK.

 
David Wennberg MD

Northern New England Accountable Care Collaborative (NNEACC)

Dr Wennberg currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Northern New England Accountable Care Collaborative (NNEACC). Formed by Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems and MaineHealth, along with Dartmouth College, NNEACC creates common financing and accountability models and provides a common information infrastructure to support the delivery of value-based accountable care. Dr Wennberg also serves as the Chief Scientist at the High Value Health Collaborative at The Dartmouth Institute. Prior to his work with the Northern New England Accountable Care Collaborative, Dr Wennberg co-founded Health Dialog Analytic Solutions, the analytic division of Health Dialog and served as Health Dialog’s Chief Science Officer. Dr Wennberg received his medical degree from McGill University and his MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. He is an internationally recognized authority on the root causes of unwarranted variation. His work has been published in many peer-reviewed medical journals including the NEJM, JAMA and the Annals of Medicine.
